The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of several epidemiologic studies and clinical-trials in the Division of Gerontology. The Division of Gerontology, located in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, conducts research, teaches, and serves as a gateway to our extensive resources dedicated to improving health and health care of older persons. Coordinate dailyactivities for multiple protocols, monitor recruitment and retention of studyparticipants.
Coordinate andparticipate in the design of protocol manuals, education materials, evaluationand data collection instruments, and training materials.
Develop, recommend andimplement policies, procedures, and/or methods for each research project.
Recruit, interview, andhire study staff in different positions (e.g., nurses, PTs, OTs, interviewers,chart abstractors) to collect data.
Supervise and coordinatethe work schedules for research staff on each separate project. Respond toquestions, ensure staff coverage at all hospital sites, and assign work asneeded. Monitor the performance of study nurses, evaluators, epidemiologyassistants, and graduate research assistants and provide opportunities forongoing training.
Oversee and coordinatethe collection, entry, verification, and analysis of data.
Coordinate and chairmonthly program meetings and bi-monthly meetings with office staff, fieldpersonnel, data collection staff, and members of the data managementteam.
Prepare program andgrant reports for participating hospitals' IRBs, University of Maryland IRB,study sponsors, Data Safety Monitoring Boards, the Department of Health andMental Hygiene, research investigators, and research staff.
Direct and/or initiatefacility recruitment; procure equipment and supplies; and interface with othersto identify needs and issues related to the program, study, and/or project.
Perform other relatedduties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree inEpidemiology, Sociology, Psychology, Nursing or field of study related to theresearch of the clinic.
Experience: Five (5) years in clinical research.
Supervisory: One (1) year of direct supervision or responsibility for training,work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
Other: May consider a combination of directly related experience andeducation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possesses leadership, coaching, and teambuilding skills to strengthen relationships with fellow research supervisors, epi-assistants, clinical research nurses, and other research staff.
Knowledge of good clinical research practice; experience coordinating/managing aging-related and clinical trial studies are preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing.
