Purpose of Position:
The Associate Director, Employer & Experiential Development will provide leadership and vision for VCU's in the areas of employer outreach and cultivation. Responsibilities include building relationships and creating awareness among corporate and community organizations with regard to the benefits of recruiting and hiring VCU students; identify existing and new opportunities for undergraduates to engage in Relevant Experiential and Applied Learning (REAL); creating opportunities for employer and alumni involvement on campus; collaborating with campus offices (e.g. development, alumni relations, business and engineering school career centers); facilitating on campus interviewing. This role also provides leadership for the maintenance of the university wide career management system database. The objectives of the position are as follows: ●Strategically identify, market to and build relationships with state, regional, national, and international employers for recruitment of university’s students. ●Ensure that employer programs and policies meet the needs of the university, are inclusive, and follow legal and ethical guidelines. ●Identify and cultivate relationships with employing organizations that historically have had little or no interaction with VCU career services and/or experience with hiring our students and graduates. ●Consult with employers on effective means of identifying potential candidates to meet their workforce needs, including, but not limited to, on campus recruitment, job postings, internships, career fairs, class/organization presentations, and resume book/drop. ●Maintain a working knowledge of local and national employment market trends and their actual and potential impact on the hiring of college students and graduates. ●Lead maintenance of and training of campus wide partners in career management database
The main responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
RELATIONSHIPDEVELOPMENT -Actively develop and maintain relationships with employers to recruit VCU students. -Coordinate and implement outreach strategy for introducing VCU to college recruiters. -Steward existing employers through recruitment lifecycle including in person, electronic, and phone communication. -Foster collaborations with university departments and personnel, including, but not limited office of community engagement, development and alumni relations, and school or college-based career services offices to ensure effective relationship management. -Manage the planning, coordination, and logistics of an inclusive employer advisory board. -Participate in various local, state, regional and national organizations to increase internship and employment opportunities for students. -Assist employers in building their brands on campus in collaboration with communications coordinator; advise employers on marketing strategies and set expectations about number of student applicants per job and internship postings(s), event participation and student involvement; ensure adequate and creative marketing of employer postings and events. -Communicate employer feedback about student career readiness and industry trends to VCU Career Services and campus partners.
LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION -Directly supervise, hire, train, evaluate and provide work direction and problem solving assistance for Employer & Experiential Development team and direct report(s). -Conduct annual performance reviews/appraisals of all direct report(s). -Encourage staff development and growth. Showcase successful staff effort and accomplishments. -Continually improve and seek professional development opportunities/feedback on supervision style and approaches to better enhance staff development, morale, and cohesion. -With Director, determine allocation of operating budget targeting employer development and relationship management. -Lead and direct several major office-wide administrative functions. -Ensure all university rules, policies, regulations, and internal customer service expectations are followed.
TECHNOLOGYMANAGEMENT -Evaluate software and equipment options for both students and employers. -Interact with campus information technology staff to ensure career management systems is integrated, when applicable, into campus computing systems. -Serve as main point-of-contact and lead campus manager of the HireVCURams database system (a vendor-supported career services management product. -In partnership with Assistant Director for Employer & Experiential Development, review and approve job postings, new contact, and new event requests in HireVCURams system daily, weekly, and monthly. -Co-manage the email@example.com email inbox with Assistant Director. -Review vendor products regularly, in partnership with Career Services leadership team, to determine best solutions of office needs.
STRATEGICPLANNING -With the director, set the strategic vision for the employer & experiential development and lead staff in developing and implementing priorities; monitor and report progress toward goals and objectives. -Lead the comprehensive department strategy to ensure that employers and community needs are met through recruiting efforts with VCU Career Services and to ensure that students and alumni have access to relevant and timely recruiting programs and opportunities. -Coordinate and implement outreach to new and active employers in line with strategy. -Consult and effectively collaborate regularly with Career Services colleagues to share industry, employer, and other relevant information. Create/implement services and programs that anticipate or respond to trends in the preparation, recruiting and hiring of students. -Regularly conduct gap analysis of employer & experiential development program and campus recruiting efforts based on benchmark data and create reports outlining strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and improvement plans; implement initiatives to address any potential gaps. -Evaluate regularly employer and student recruiting policies and student privacy policies in accordance with professional association standards (NACE) as necessary; communicate to students and employers as appropriate.
PROJECTMANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATIVEDUTIES -Manage, source, and develop experiential education opportunities with employers that meet the needs of the student population. -Consult with academic departments to ensure that appropriate experiential education guidelines/requirements are followed to meet goals for the experience, e.g., achievement of academic credit. -Design relevant programs that take into consideration and accommodate needs of diverse student population. -Ensure that recruiting programs are inclusive and nondiscriminatory. -Cross-Functional Teams and University Initiatives – serve on various cross-functional teams to promote the vision and direction of Career Services; contribute to the strategic planning in order to evolve center services and programs. -Represent VCU and the center in local and national professional associations and conferences in order to stay current with industry standards and changes, revise programs to reflect trends, and increase the center's visibility among professionals in the field. -Participate in university committees providing representation of VCU Career Services on community issues.
-Master's degree or MBA required in student affairs, human resource management, business, or a related discipline -Awareness of trends within higher education, career services, employment marketplace and economy. -Demonstrated experience developing positive relationships, partnerships, and alliances. -Minimum of 7 years of experience in college recruiting or career services in a higher education setting or related area. -Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so. -Ability to oversee multiple projects with attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills. -Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, employers, alumni, faculty, and staff. -Strategic planning and implementation; goal-setting skills. -Supervision and leadership skills experience. -Exceptional communication (written, oral, presentation). Demonstrated proficiency designing and delivering presentations.
-MBTI Certification, SHRM Certified Professional -Outcomes assessment and evaluation experience. -Ability to assess and report on student-learning outcomes. -Ability to use social media and database systems. -Budget management experience a plus.
