UW Information Technology (UW-IT) has an outstanding opportunity for a Productivity Platform Specialist (PPS).
About the Position:
As a member of UW-IT's Academic Experience Design & Delivery (AXDD) unit, the PPS will implement and support a wide range of on premise and cloud-hosted collaboration and productivity platforms to ensure reliability for over one-hundred thousand UW users and community members and partners outside the University. These include but are not limited to:
Microsoft collaborative platforms such as: Exchange, SharePoint, Skype for Business, Yammer, Power BI, Sway, Microsoft Office across on premise, cloud and Office 365 platforms.
G Suite for Education and Classroom (aka Google Apps for Education): Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Hangouts and others.
The PPS will play a significant role in UW-IT's efforts to offer and integrate the cloud computing platforms and services from Microsoft and Google. These cloud services are key to bringing new collaborative applications to enhance teaching, learning, research, and everyday work at UW.
The PPS's responsibilities include:
Anticipating, identifying and resolving concerns and conflicts associated with these platforms, presenting on progress and providing demos of the technologies to clients and stakeholders, and providing 2nd and 3rd Tier support.
Escalating and resolving support problems stemming from the interplay of Google and Microsoft cloud applications with a variety of Web browsers and related desktop applications.
Developing and managing client relationships, crafting product acceptance criteria with clients, negotiating release plans, making recommendations for product improvement based upon client feedback, and some technical writing.
Coordinating and working with UW-IT colleagues and campus partners on projects involving Google, Microsoft, and other technologies, especially to help integrate cloud applications with other UW-IT services, such as the Canvas Learning Management System and MyUW.
Educating members of the UW community, other higher education institutions, and vendors about Google, Microsoft and other collaboration and productivity platforms.
You are able and eager to:
Oversee and carry out end-to-end support for Google G Suite for Education, Microsoft Office 365 and on premise SharePoint, Exchange or other productivity solutions.
Represent AXDD in support scenarios, product development meetings, and interactions with vendors, partners in industry, colleagues at other higher education institutions, and with campus technologists and clients.
Manage productivity platform services, including strategic and project planning, service lifecycle management, support coordination, outreach, and creation and maintenance of service, technical and support documentation for productivity platforms.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Informatics, IT Management and Organization, Information Systems or related field (equivalent experience can substitute).
Three years' experience managing productivity platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint, Office 365, Google G Suite or similar with duties including issue resolution, Tier 2 and 3 support, system deployment and configuration, and service lifecycle
Experience with desktop application troubleshooting and Outlook/OWA troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability self-train on new products, standards and applications
Demonstrated ability to orally communicate highly technical impacts and procedures to technical and non-technical audiences, including clients, technologists, and other support staff
Excellent written communications skills, including service, technical and support documentation
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team, in a very visible, pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.
Experience with Office 365 and/or Google G Suite (Google Apps for Education)
Experience developing or supporting email systems
Experience with service and project management methodologies
Experience in higher education and with educational technologies
Conditions of Employment:
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., this individual must be willing to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of colleagues and partners. Events that will occur outside the normal work schedule include, but are not limited to impromptu staff meetings, client consultations, and system modifications. Likewise, this position has regular stringent deadlines revolving around the academic calendar which may require extended work hours.
