Virginia Tech's University Libraries seek a talented Web Development Engineer to work within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Applications, Systems, and Infrastructure Unit and collaborate with our team of engineers, designers, and librarians in developing front-end web applications. The successful candidate will engage in the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance for the Libraries' growing portfolio of websites and web applications, and will participate in planning for future development, taking into account newly available technologies to enhance the growth and effectiveness of the Libraries' expanding web presence.
The Web Development Engineer may serve on Library committees as appropriate.
- Advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, information science, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with comparable professional experience from and accredited institution. - Expert-level proficiency and proven experience with web markup and adherence to web standards - Demonstrated skill, understanding, and experience with client-side scripting - Demonstrated skill, understanding, and experience with server-side CSS pre-processing platforms - Proficient understanding of cross-browser/platform/device compatibility - Proficient understanding and experience using Git for software version control - Strong analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills - Proven record of customer service excellence - Ability to work independently and with initiative to identify and solve problems
