Position Title: Information Literacy & Access Librarian (11-month faculty contract)
Supervisor: SNU Library Director
The Information Literacy & Access Librarian serves as a member of the SNU Library faculty with primary responsibility for the design, implementation, and assessment of information literacy curriculum, teaching information literacy to faculty/students both online and in person, and successfully applying appropriate technology to enhance the teaching-learning process. This person is also responsible for supervising 10-15 circulation student workers, for ensuring access to the physical collections through circulation management, and for staffing the reference desk as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, promote, and assess information literacy (IL) curriculum.
Create and implement digitally-based IL learning objects.
Partner with Library faculty, IT, the Faculty Resource Center, and other university faculty to ensure students learn to be information literate (regardless of modality); this includes teaching IL class sessions.
Serve as liaison with specific paired courses and individual departments as assigned.
Ensure IL curriculum is based on the Association of College & Research Libraries’ IL Framework.
Participate in professional development activities that support IL curriculum creation, teaching and learning, and other relevant aspects of library science.
Establish library access policies and procedures to support the University community in an effective and accountable manner.
Propose, implement, and evaluate innovative services and enhancements for access services in accordance with best practices for academic libraries.
Facilitate easy access to physical collections by managing circulation processes.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate circulation student workers.
Generate, analyze, and evaluate library circulation data annually as a strategic tool to inform leadership decisions.
Be a ‘personal librarian’ to faculty in assigned departments.
Meet with faculty to discover library needs.
Make suggestions to both the Library Director and discipline faculty for purchase of books, e-books, digital periodicals, and/or databases.
Teach information literacy classes and embed in discipline-specific courses.
Analyze assigned sections of the library collection based on current discipline-specific curriculum and standards.
Participate in paired course instruction each fall as assigned.
Teach general education class sessions in addition to liaison responsibilities as necessary.
Staff the reference desk as scheduled; some weekend and evening hours are to be expected.
Answer reference questions in person, on the phone, via email, or via chat.
Minimum Qualifications/ Skills:
An MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program.
Knowledge of best practices in instructional technology and research methods.
Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
2 years experience in an academic library.
2 years supervisory experience.
2 years of teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to successfully learn and apply new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
Proficiency with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Must be willing to uphold the standards of the Church of the Nazarene.
Experience in developing learning objects, instructional videos and tools, and online tutorials in an academic environment.
Familiarity with learning management systems and the ability to integrate instructional technologies in courses with a library component.
Experience with emerging technologies applicable to online pedagogical practices.
Demonstrated experience with curriculum design theories, methodologies, and best practices, including modeling and active learning.
