The Department of Communication Studies at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) announces a tenure-track Assistant Professor position that begins September 2018. We seek a scholar and teacher in communication studies who will have the ability and motivation for excellent teaching in our undergraduate core courses, including in the following areas: introduction to communication studies, communication theory, research methods in communication, and ethics in communication. We will consider applicants from all areas of focus within communication studies; those with a quantitative research orientation are preferred.
Nestled in the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains, CSUSB (a Hispanic-Serving Institution) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire region of Southern California, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. CSUSB offers programs through the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences, and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley. CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate and 35 graduate degrees, including one doctoral degree, as well as 13 programs with national accreditation. The Department offers a B.A. in Communication Studies with concentrations in Media Studies, Public Relations, and Human and Organizational Communication; and an M.A. in Communication Studies.

The successful candidate will teach and develop a variety of communication studies courses, including those in the undergraduate core curriculum. The normal teaching load is three courses per quarter, or nine courses per academic year. Beginning in Fall 2020, CSUSB will operate on a semester schedule; the anticipated semester teaching load is four courses per semester.
Requirements include a Ph.D in Communication or related field at the time of appointment, evidence of promise in professional activities, a record of excellence in teaching, and a commitment to service to the University and larger community. We especially welcome candidates committed to the success of first-generation college students from diverse backgrounds.
