The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, nationally recognized as an Exemplary Career Center by the National Career Development Association, provides comprehensive career services to students and alumni of Binghamton University including career identification and planning, internship options, job search assistance, employment opportunities, and comprehensive graduation data. We have pioneered an innovative Career Consultant in Residence model where we have career professionals providing career consulting in the residential areas as well as in the Fleishman Center to bring career services to students where they live.
Budget Title: Career Consulting Assistant (SL-2)
10 month appointment (college year pay basis)
Reporting line: Fleishman Center, dotted line to Binghamton University Scholars Program
Direct Student Services (25%)
Offer appointments for Binghamton University Scholars Program participants, Fraternity and Sorority Life members and other students, with topics covering: career exploration, mock interviews for graduate school and employment, job/internship/research search, graduate/professional school planning and application process, LinkedIn support, resume/CV creation, etc. Appointment hours offered in key locations.
Staff Fleishman Walk-in Career Consulting for a minimum of one shift per week
Develop creative and innovative programs and classroom presentations to meet the needs of assigned career communities
Outreach & Career Community Building (25%)
Each staff member in the Fleishman Center works to foster collaboration through our career community development concept focused on:
Conducting outreach to faculty, alumni, students, student organizations, employers, parents, and staff to enhance our wisdom and partnerships across and beyond campus with a focus on research, science majors and scholars.
Liaising and developing programs with/honoring referrals from their communities.
Communicating on behalf of the center and seeking out collaboration.
Career Communities for this position include: Binghamton University Scholars Program, Undergraduate Research (FRI, SRI), Fraternity and Sorority Life, Newing Residential Community
Work to engage more Scholars alumni to serve as mentors, internship providers, and/or employers for students
Attend Scholars Program sponsored events
Foster working partnerships with Newing Residential Life staff to collaborate on career events supporting early engagement in Passport to Career Success
Present to all Scholars 127 classes on Fleishman Center resources and career opportunities.
Plan programming for Fraternity and Sorority Community, focusing on professional development and marketing their Greek Life experience.
Program Planning & Administration (40%)
Develop a Binghamton University Scholars alumni mentoring opportunity utilizing CampusTap
Enhance Scholars peer mentoring program to integrate career and professional development
Coordinate the Graduate School Fair and Law Day Events
Supervise the Career Closet initiative including the recruitment of student volunteer/interns to manage the closet.
General Administrative/Operational Support (10%)
Contribute to departmental reporting including inputting career consulting notes documenting session outcomes.
Participate in Fleishman staff meetings, team meetings. Will be part of the Enhancing the Student Experience and one other staff work team (Marketing or Employer Team)
Participate in Scholars meetings
Demonstrated experience working cooperatively and collaboratively with students, employers, staff and faculty with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to ensure positive relations and career success
Event planning and programming experience
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Willingness to work weekends, evenings and travel as needed
Possess an understanding of computer applications - must demonstrate proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google apps for Education
Highly motivated, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task while meeting multiple concurrent deadlines
Professional and able to respond quickly to problems/issues in an efficient manner and handle confidential matters with tact and discretion

Ability to administer and interpret FOCUS2, career assessment tool, results as appropriate
