The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (The State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for a faculty member, at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, in Manufacturing Systems using new technologies starting in Spring or Fall 2018. The Watson School is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. Potential applicants who share this goal, especially underrepresented minorities, women and persons with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply. The position involves teaching at all levels from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses, and establishing theoretical and applied research in the area of Advanced Manufacturing Systems. The position requires hands-on experience in contemporary additive manufacturing (AM, 3D printing) processes, such as metal additive manufacturing, bio-additive manufacturing, direct-write, electro-hydrodynamic printing, electrostatic spray deposition, robocasting, printing of smart materials, polymer composite additive manufacturing, hybrid additive manufacturing, big area additive manufacturing, etc. Candidates with expertise in the following areas are also welcome to apply: advanced robotics or cobotics (collaborative robots), intelligent/flexible production systems, green manufacturing, smart manufacturing, and the use of Internet of Things (IoT) to transform the future of manufacturing.
The SSIE Department secures over 3 million dollars in research funding per year. Our faculty members work collaboratively with over 30 sponsors from industry and federal agencies. With an excellent and growing academic reputation, the SSIE Department is internationally renowned in the electronics manufacturing/electronics packaging arena. Another area of substantial growth is health systems, and our faculty works with several major healthcare organizations across the nation and abroad. The department is continuing significant expansion, with four additional faculty positions, including this position.
The department currently has twenty-one (21) faculty members and offers a BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) and MS and PhD Degrees in both Systems Science (or SS) and Industrial and Systems Engineering (or ISE). SSIE also offers a cutting edge executive health systems program in Manhattan. With about 250 undergraduate, 250 masters and 120 doctoral students, the department is growing in numbers and in its reputation. Among industrial and systems engineering departments, the program is positively regarded, ranking number 7 on the Princeton Review's list of "Colleges that Create Future," among other accolades. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to help increase the number of women, underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities, as well as help increase external funding to support diverse populations. Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the department web site (http://www.ssie.binghamton.edu) for more details.
