About the Position
We are seeking a dynamic, resourceful, and well-organized Development Officer to help build our new major gifts program. This frontline fundraiser will manage donor relationships and build the pipeline for major gifts and planned giving. MoveOn’s large donor fundraising, initiated in 2015, complements the small donor base that was the organization’s exclusive source of income for many years and remains the strong majority of MoveOn’s income. The large donor program has quickly become an important additional asset to help MoveOn meet the escalating challenges of this historical moment, raising more than $5 million in less than a year and a half while complying with the highest levels of transparency and reporting. The Development Officer will help lead the next phase of growth as we expand the Development team and deepen our work in this area.
This job require professionalism, patience, positivity, flexibility, organization, and calm under fire in the midst of David vs. Goliath battles to defend our democracy and defend our core values from unprecedented attacks. This position is crucial to the success of MoveOn and will need strong communication skills remain in sync with the entirety of the organization. MoveOn is a virtual organization, with staff working remotely from across the country so being able to keep work moving regardless of physical location is essential.
Primary Responsibilities and Scope
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors who give $1,000 - $100,000 by highly customized correspondence, phone calls and face-to-face meetings
Develop written plans for targeted potential donors that provide strategy to move prospective donors through the donor cycle ensuring timely and purposeful progress
Maintain accurate moves management records and donor information in Salesforce, the donor database
Assess and expand the major gift donor pool by building relationships, identifying new potential candidates and acting on data and potential donor research
Conceive of and execute a calendar of cultivation and stewardship events that engage donors and potential donors in the organization's mission and program in strategically viable markets around the country; this will allow opportunities for national and international travel, as appropriate
Meet or exceed established monthly and annual contact and financial goals for major gifts program
Works collaboratively with other staff to coordinate strategic and purposeful cultivation and solicitation activities
Authors and edits funding proposals and donor communications to facilitate gift solicitations
Other duties as assigned
At least 5 years related development experience with at least 3 years' successful experience in front-line major gifts fundraising, preferably in a progressive advocacy or political context
High-level of drive and energy to be constantly meeting, qualifying and engaging donors and potential donors
Demonstrated success and effectiveness in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding donors/potential donors
Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and to work calmly under pressure of goals and deadlines
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills; engaging interpersonal skills.
Tech savvy, must be comfortable in a digital-first environment. Proficient in donor database software
Classification, Salary, and Benefits: Full-time, competitive salary including benefits such as 100%-employer-paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance for all staff and their children; employer-paid premiums for life insurance for all staff; four weeks accrued paid vacation time per year; 12 weeks of paid maternity or paternity leave, 10 days accrued paid sick time; and reimbursement of office expenses.
