University Advancement, Annual Philanthropy, has an outstanding opportunity for a Direct and Digital Media (DM2) Specialist.
The University of Washington has a great opportunity to join an innovative team of analytics and annual giving professionals responsible for creating innovative strategies that engage and cultivate new generations of philanthropists in support of our mission. The Annual Philanthropy team is seeking a motivated professional for the position of Direct and Digital Media (DM2) Specialist to help build and support fundraising strategies that emphasize personalized communications and a digital first approach.
The DM2 Specialist, reporting to the Associate Director, Communications Strategy, supports direct-mail and digital media initiatives to meet the needs of the University's Annual Philanthropy Program. The Specialist manages the production cycle of direct mail and digital fund raising appeals, including coordinating schedules of unit-based partners.
In conjunction with the Associate Director, Communications Strategy, the DM2 Specialist will incorporate social media and other types of digital assets to communicate with, engage and solicit all of our constituents through Marketo, our marketing automation platform; regular reporting on the success of all communication efforts and its impacts across University Advancement; and, in partnership with Analytics, regular and on-going analysis of message themes, package design, and direct mail timing to evaluate effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations and manage workflow of direct mail and digital media projects for the University of Washington's Office of Annual Philanthropy. Work includes complex data segmentation and auditing, scheduling, and coordinating the services of both internal and external vendors.
Serve as a liaison between the Office of Annual Philanthropy and campus units to coordinate centralized direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns.
In conjunction with the Associate Director, Communications Strategy, responsible for creating digital fundraising programs and philanthropic engagement communications throughout the year.
Serve an Advanced Marketer role in Marketo to create and execute digital fundraising projects in conjunction with Associate Director, Communications Strategist, and other team members.
Collaborate with all Annual Giving units to establish and deliver an integrated solicitation strategy and calendar.
Perform system uploads, downloads, and edits of alumni data, as well as gift and pledge information.
Manage and enter appeal codes.
Handle multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Work with Annual Philanthropy team as well as central and unit-based partners to develop effective multi-channel campaigns.
Tracks appeals, strategy tests, and donor segments for analysis of program effectiveness. Reports are prepared for Annual Philanthropy as well as external units.
Provides ongoing response to all questions concerning direct mail appeals from internal and external contacts.
Responds promptly and appropriately to donor questions coming through My UW Giving email

Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in advancement/non-profit, project management, administrative support OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software ADVANCE.
Experience with marketing automation software (Marketo, Convio)
Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Desktop Publishing.
Knowledge of Reportwriter.net programs.
