Description The primary role of this administrative position is to design, implement, and evaluate UNE COM faculty and staff development processes and programs in order to support educational initiatives within the broader efforts of promoting medical education, educational research, and scholarship.
•Creates a vision for faculty and staff development for UNE COM and a strategic plan for faculty and staff development and training.
•Collaborates with stakeholders to identify areas of deficiency and needed improvement in faculty and staff teaching and learning.
•Provides leadership in program development for UNE COM on-campus faculty and staff (biomedical science and clinical) and off-campus faculty and staff (Preceptors, Program Directors, and Directors of Medical Education (DMEs)) in all stages of career development.
•Plans, develops, and manages faculty and staff initiatives incorporating the latest research in scientific and educational teaching, learning, leadership, and student assessment.
•Develops and implements a UNE COM Faculty and Staff Development website.
•Collaborates and consults with the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Director, Recruitment Student and Alumni Services, Center for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning, Center for Excellence in Neuroscience, Interprofessional Education Collaborative, Departments of Academic Affairs, Clinical Education, Graduate Medical Education, Primary Care, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and Biomedical Sciences on educational projects.
•Organizes and/or develops faculty and staff training events, workshops, programs, seminars, conferences, and online modules designed to improve teaching, learning, leadership, and student assessment.
•Assists the Associate Deans and Department Chairs in coordinating and administrating an orientation program for new faculty and staff.
•Stays current in the field of teaching, learning, leadership, and assessment, including maintaining a personal scholarly agenda, educational research publications, and/or appropriate national level presentations in the field of faculty development.
•Collaborates with the Grants Office to identify appropriate grants for which faculty should apply and collaborate with other institutions as well as assist in the writing and review of such grants.
•Confers regularly with the Associate Deans, other college administrators, college faculty and staff, and other UNE personnel to plan and coordinate activities, exchange information, and investigate and resolve problems related to the UNE COM curriculum and education.
•Completes University new employee orientation and sexual harassment training within 30 days of the date of hire.
•Understands and complies with the University of New England Safety Manual.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in curriculum and instructional design, educational technology, assessment or other educational related fields, and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in medical education, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired;
•Experience with osteopathic medical education preferred
•Excellent administrative and administrative support skills
•Advanced organizational skills with a demonstrated commitment to faculty and staff development
•Experience with grant writing preferred
•Experience and the ability to plan, execute, monitor, and adjust budgets
•Ability to work as a productive and collaborative team member
•Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals both inside and outside the University
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
•Basic working knowledge of Blackboard and Microsoft Access
•Familiarity with integrated computerized management information systems
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
