The Program Manager is responsible for development and management of the system wide antimicrobial stewardship program. The Program Manager partners with the physician leader(s) responsible for antimicrobial stewardship. Works in collaboration with Epidemiology, Infectious Disease, Infection Prevention, Quality Improvement, Microbiology (Laboratory), Nursing and Pharmacy services to provide a coordinated approach to support and provide optimal antibiotic use through drug management efforts across the Essentia Health System. Develops health system policies and procedures to implement and ensure optimal interventions to provide drug management and antimicrobial stewardship actions to meet regulatory guidelines from Infection Prevention, Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Centers for Medicaid/ Medicare Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and other nationally recognized agencies and evidence based practices. Develops the process measures and reporting system of antimicrobial use to Essentia Health leadership. Works in collaboration with Infection Prevention and Microbiology for monitoring outcome measures of antimicrobial use for Essentia Health. The Program Manager is responsible for providing antimicrobial stewardship leadership and education to the organization. This leadership also encompasses the development and execution of institutional Anti-Microbial Stewardship programs; essential for build and ongoing maintenance of the Essentia Health electronic medical record as it relates to antimicrobial stewardship.
Flexibility in location: Duluth, MN Brainerd, MN or Fargo, ND
Education and/or years experience required: •Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (BS or PharmD degree required) •Minimum three (3) years of experience as an acute care clinical pharmacist, performance improvement/risk management, and a minimum of 12 months of experience in infectious disease. •Experience with statistics, epidemiological principles, and keen medical awareness of the connection between infection control and antibiotic use. •Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, as well as basic use of the internet and email.
Licensure/Certifications required: •Bachelor’s degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy and/or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy •Formal pharmacy residency training (PGY1, PGY2-Infectious Disease, or I.D. Fellowship) or equivalent infectious disease experience required.
