Cross Medical Laboratories Histotechnology Position
Cross Laboratories is a small independent AP only facility in Iowa City with 4 pathologists that has undergone recent substantial growth in volume and is seeking to add an additional histotechnologist and bring more complex testing in house.
The surgical pathology volume is around 5,000 cases per year with predominantly skin, gyn, GI cases, surgical specimens from a local ambulatory surgical center and a large volume of urologic specimens from 3 different facilities. Plans to add automated IHC staining and special stains are proceeding and the new services are expected to begin sometime in the 4th quarter of 2017.
A potential IHC case load of 500-700 cases per year is expected. The urine cytology volume is between 3 and 4 thousand per year. The Job description is below:
The technologists expected duties would include routine embedding, sectioning, and staining of patient and veterinary specimens, performing special stains, operating the IH stainer, occasionally assisting one of the pathologists in cutting frozen sections at the local ambulatory surgical center, accessioning surgical and cytology specimens in the lab LIS, and assist/aid with histology lab routine maintenance and quality control plan.
The technologist will also be trained and perform cytology preparation using a thin prep system and staining of slides and also perform gross examination of less complex surgical pathology specimens including GI biopsies, endometrial and cervical biopsies and prostate needle biopsies.
