The Associate Director, School of Education is responsible for overseeing the Office of Teacher Education Student Support, which includes certification, field experiences & student teaching and program assessment. This position also supports the Director, School of Education with policy/procedure management, program planning, curriculum delivery, community engagement, and responsiveness to students at all of the education sites where the college provides instruction.
Oversee the Office of Teacher Education Student Support and: - Represent the interests, prerogatives, and initiatives of the School of Education. - Represent the School of Education within and external to the University including local, regional, state, national, and international arenas. Establish working relationships with appropriate educational service districts (ESDs), school districts, and public and private schools in the development of field experiences. Represent the School of Education at appropriate state level meetings (e.g., WACTE 3/year, OSPI standards committees as needed, etc.)- Employ principles of shared governance in working with the department chairs and faculty. - Support the principles of equal opportunity and diversity in all College and School of Education initiatives. - Act as a resource for departmental personnel; participate on committees and/or meetings. - Develop, implement, and annually review partnerships and contractual agreements between Central Washington University and public/private PK-12 school districts. - Support the recruitment and training of all field supervisors concerning their responsibilities in field experience, including coordination with faculty in major content subject areas, coordination of CWU requirements with PK-12 school expectations, and use of appropriate assessment instruments. - Support coordinating all student and supervisor assignments for field experiences (student teaching, practicums, and alternative pathways to teaching certification). - Work collaboratively with programs involved in Professional Development Schools (year-long programs) to support the ongoing development of relationships with districts. - Collaborate with content and pedagogy faculty to ensure that all field experiences are in compliance with national, state, and institutional standards and competencies. - Oversee state and regional accreditation requirements and School of Education processes - Manage School of Education office / support staff - Coordinate with faculty leads the School of Education Alternative Pathways to Teaching (APT) programs - Manage candidate concerns / discipline - Responsible for program assessment - Assist the Executive Director, School of Education in Assteacshort- and long- range strategic planning. - Support the Executive Director, School of Education with policy/procedure management, program planning, budget management, personnel actions, faculty/staff development, curriculum delivery, community engagement, and responsiveness to students at all of the education sites where the college provides instruction.
Supervision: - Actively engages in recruitment and hiring new employees; - Clearly defines performance expectations, ensure accountability, and provides ongoing informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring. Conducts formal performance evaluations; - Ensures employees have necessary resources; - Oversees and directs the work of staff; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues; - Promotes professional development opportunities; - Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement; - Communicates information to staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community; - Takes corrective action in a timely manner; - Recognizes and rewards employees for good performance; - Schedules employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approve payable time and absence requests; - Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results; - Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
Administrative or leadership experience
Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and speaking skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Ability to sustain a strong and collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Experience supervising field based teacher candidates
Experience in Pre K-12 teaching
Experience in higher education
Bachelors or Masters in a discipline associated with teacher preparation or coursework leading to teaching certification
Working knowledge of Washington State licensure requirements
Experience applying state and national educational standards
Experience working as a member of an administrative or project team
Experience administering an academic department or academic unit
Experience promoting diversity in faculty, staff, and student body

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
