Mental Health America is seeking a Development Manager to develop and grow foundation, new corporate, and government grants. The Development Manager will direct, coordinate, and provide overall support for the activities necessary to attract major grants and contracts to the organization, with a focus on new funds. The Manager will identify prospects, collaborate with other departments in the development of a portfolio of projects for support, begin and nurture relationships with grant-makers, and craft and submit proposals. Position reports to the Vice President of Development.
Specific duties include:
Management of all foundation-related fundraising, including identifying prospects, building relationships, and submitting proposals
Management of corporate grants and contracts from diversified industry streams, such as health technology.
Management of government grant applications, including tracking opportunities, identifying partners, and writing proposals
Assisting the Chief of Staff with identifying and pursuing government contracting opportunities as both a prime and a sub
Synthesizing information from program staff in order to write grants and proposals for all activities.
Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate:
Has experience writing successful grants for foundation or government funders.
Manages relationships with individuals and places a high priority on regular communication and good customer service.
Speaks well before groups of 5-100 constituents.
Has a history of closing on deals and/or making “asks” at appropriate times during the course of a relationship.
Can work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Writes extremely well – grant proposals, appeals, and donor communication should be error-free.
Has experience working with donor databases such as SalesForce or Raiser’s Edge, as well as common office software.
Works well with both program staff and external funders.
Has, at a minimum, 3 years of accelerated growth in fundraising. 5-9 years is preferred.
