Working independently under the general supervision of the Administrative Manager, this role provides administrative support to the Chair of the Classics department, Director of Graduate Studies (including liaison between Graduate School and the Department's graduate students), Administrative Manager, and Department Faculty. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing financial and human resource support including processing academic, non-academic and student appointments, working with ISSO on Visa issues when necessary, preparing financial transactions via Kuali, tracking awards made by Department Chair, verifying budgets and monitoring expenses for sponsored projects, making travel arrangements for invited speakers and students, working closely with faculty to organize department sponsored workshops and events. As Graduate Field Coordinator, work closely with the Director of Graduate Studies to provide information to current and prospective graduate students; manage graduate application files using CollegeNet; maintain graduate student database and files. Provide backup assistance for Undergraduate Coordinator. Participate in team effort to cover essential office operations.
Formal training beyond a HS diploma of 1 to 2 years, 2 years college coursework, or Associate's degree; more than 4 years, but less than 6 years relevant work experience. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated, crucial. Strong organizational, communication and administrative skills required. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize busy workload. Must maintain confidentiality. Experience in or ability to quickly achieve proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Access, FileMaker Pro, and various Cornell on-line administrative systems including Kuali, Workday, CollegeNet and Peoplesoft.
