Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Assistant (Surgical) within the Surgical Gynecologic Oncology department, at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position, are the following:
Provides gynecologic health care services to patients under the direction of a Licensed Physician.
Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examination and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory tests and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
Assists in the management of all surgical and medical admissions to the service, facilitating discharges and performing consultations.
Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and managing infection.
Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assists in provisions of continuity of care.
Assists in the management of patients admitted for the administration of chemotherapy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners – Physician Advisory Committee.
One (1) year of surgical experience, in major surgical procedures is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Experience with Robotic surgery is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, traveling, lifting up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Exposures to blood, anti-neoplastic drugs and infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
