Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV for Bio-specimen Repository Services Department at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Under the direction from Tissue Analytic Services Bio-Specimen Repository Laboratory Manager, the Research Teaching Specialist IV carries out research related clinical specimen collection and processing. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in protocol adaptation and administrative duties involved in following protocol requirements and regulations.
Processes research related specimen processing including immunohistochemistry techniques.
Assists principal investigators in the establishment/documentation of specimen processing procedures after review of clinical trial protocols.
Assists principal investigators in the justification for and purchasing of supplies/equipment needed for protocols requiring specimen processing.
Responsible for the collection processing of clinical trial research specimens using established laboratory techniques.
Performs laboratory techniques specific for molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology and immunohistochemistry including but not limited to tissue culture and sterile techniques, lymphocyte separation techniques, RNA/DNA extraction/isolation, ELISA, chemical analysis of biological fluids and blood and immunohistochemistry.
Master's Degree in a relevant science or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must show proficiency in molecular biology laboratory methods.
Understanding research protocols well enough to implement specimen processing needs and/or documentation of specimen collection and processing procedures.
Ability to follow and create laboratory SOPs in order to reach goals set by research protocols.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and show ability to learn laboratory specific database software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment: Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to incautious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Mandatory “on-call” laboratory schedule must be adhered to for complete collection of all protocol related bio-specimens.
