Advertised Summary Job Description: Arts & Sciences Information Technology (ASIT) at Columba University is looking for a part time web developer for a one year contract to assist with multiple web development projects within the social science, humanities, and natural science departments.
Reporting to the Director of IT for Arts and Sciences in the office of the Executive Vice President of Arts and Sciences, incumbent will be part of the ASIT team (comprised of seven to ten helpdesk technicians) who provide desktop and server support services for the faculty and administrators within the Arts and Sciences Division at Columbia University.
The incumbent will be responsible for creating HTML or PDF emails, newsletters, surveys; creating HTML landing pages, login protected pages, and install, test, and maintain Wordpress plugins; monitoring website uptime and backups; creating website layout/user interface by using HTML/CSS best-practices; performing continual maintenance checks to ensure optimal site performance; performing browser compatibility assessments and testing including mobile browsers and responsive design; using analytics and testing and testing best practices to modify and optimize the site to continuously improve the site; find follow, recommend, and implement WordPress best-practices that improve site performance, engagement, and conversion; ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements and university policies on web site usage, security, and standards.

General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of three years' relevant experience
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -Basic understanding of scripting languages such as PHP -Familiar with Wordpress in a multisite environment and Drupal CMS -Good understanding of the WordPress core software and its functions at the code level -Good knowledge of HTML, CSS. -Experience with Drupal CMS is a plus -Experience with basic FTP, SSH and Telnet protocols is a plus -Strong problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills -Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines -Basic understanding of Access Control in a Wordpress environment -Good grasp of web security principles -Familiarity with ADA compliant web design -A true passion for building great websites, and work well in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with web development in an academic environment is preferred. Experience designing ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant websites is helpful. Experience configuring and maintaining web hosting servers (Windows or Linux) is helpful.
