The Brown University Division of Advancement seeks qualified applicants for the position of Regional Director, International Advancement.
The Regional Director for International Advancement is responsible for the strategic management of a portfolio of approximately 150-200 international major and principal gift prospects and donors in strategic market areas outside of the US, including the UK, Europe, Canada, Latin America and Brazil.
Primary responsibilities of the Regional Director involve effective prospect and donor relationship management of high-level alumni, parents and friends, corporations and foundations, including field qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. An emphasis on the development of solicitation strategies and closure of major ($100,000 - $4,999,999) and principal gifts ($5M+) aligned with University campaigns and major fundraising priorities is a requirement of the position as measured against the attainment of personal and regional annual fundraising goals.
Other responsibilities include effective collaboration and partnership with colleagues, peers and fundraising unit managers within a diverse number and variety of fundraising programs; management of regional volunteer committees, as needed; planning and managing regional events; staffing University administrators and faculty on development visits with prospects and donors; and recording activities, contacts, proposals and strategic plans in the donor database.
The Regional Director routinely interacts with a variety of University colleagues, including those in Advancement leadership, Alumni Relations, Development, various academic departments and faculty members, among others.
Bachelorâ™s degree required; Brown University degree prefered
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience (development, sales, customer relations, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting highly desired; direct experience with major gift fundraising in a capital campaign, high level volunteer management and knowledge of Brown University is highly desired.
Proven ability to solicit and close philanthropic gifts on the six and seven-figure level, or equivalent experience in a related field such as sales.
Ability to work with sophisticated individuals, captains of industry, families of great wealth and other highly visible members of the Brown community
International professional experience highly desired. Exposure to different cultures and countries demonstrated through previous work experience, living in a country other than the USA, personal experience, or educational or professional pursuits; knowledge of international customs, protocol, and diplomacy
Foreign language desired, fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred
Willingness to travel internationally and domestically, at least 4-6 times a year
Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans that support the activities of the program and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of Advancement and the fundraising enterprise.
Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrating tact, poise and diplomacy while working with a wide variety of personalities. An ability and comfort in meeting and interacting with individuals of considerable social status and affluence from a variety of cultural backgrounds is required.
Ability to apply good judgment and proven responsible decision-making skills; tact and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential alumni, parent, student, family, donor and prospect information.
Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines.
Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
