QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree required. Five years experience in development and fundraising. Specific successful experience with corporate and foundation cultivation, proposal writing and fundraising research required. Annual fund campaign experience a plus. Excellent organizational skills required (written, telephone and electronic). Must be able to demonstrate good composition skills including knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge fundraising software. PowerPoint, Publisher, Quark and Photoshop a plus. A knowledge of Chicago’s philanthropic community in detail.
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Development
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Is responsible for all the grant writing and proposal submissions to private foundations and corporations for the entire agency. The grant writer supports the daily activities of External Relations Department by assisting the CEO and VP of External Relations with institutional fund raising.
Responsible for corporate sponsorship for agency events.
Responsible for corporate and foundation financial reporting for budget analysis.
The grant writer manages the timely submission of foundation and corporation proposals and reports, assists in coordinating and family foundation applications and reports ensuring they are in compliance with grants.
Oversees and is responsible for the scheduling, writing and submission of proposals for monetary and larger in-kind donations from private foundations and corporate giving programs for Anixter Center and Chicago Hearing Society.
Oversees and is responsible for identifying, researching, and initiating contact with potential corporate and foundation supporters. Coordinates contacts between administrators of corporations/foundations and Anixter Center Board Members, Anixter Center executive staff, and Chicago Hearing Society. Maintains accurate records of all institutional fundraising in the donor database.
Maintains the grant proposal calendar and provides reports monthly to the CEO and quarterly to the Board Of Directors.
Assists in the implementation of special events as requested.
Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
Engages in professional development activities to remain current in the field and to enhance awareness of best practices in grantsmanship.
Serves with colleagues at Anixter Center on agency teams and councils.
Assumes other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, operate a variety of office equipment and function in a busy office environment. Travel to other programs and locations for meetings and/or events required.
