Berkeley Lab's Computational Cosmology Center (C3) is looking for a Computational Cosmology Postdoctoral Scholar to work on a Department of Energy Exascale Computing Project. You will contribute to the further development of the adaptive mesh multi-physics Nyx code, and have access to some of the world-leading supercomputers including Cori (Berkeley/NERSC), Theta and Aurora (Argonne/ALCF) and Summit (Oak Ridge/OLCF). Berkeley Lab is a member of several sky surveys, including eBOSS, DESI, DES and LSST, and is involved in CMB experiments.
Candidates with strong computing backgrounds but no experience in cosmology, as well as those with experience carrying out cosmological simulations, are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will have the opportunity to do research related to the Lyman-alpha forest, clusters of galaxies, or weak gravitational lensing in addition to work on physics model development, parallel scalability and performance optimization.
What You Will Do:
Become an essential member of a diverse team of cosmologists, applied mathematicians, and computational and computer scientists, who are working together to develop cosmology codes for next-generation high performance computer architectures.
Work on implementation of different physics modules for the Nyx code.
Develop, implement and test new approaches for achieving highly efficient parallel performance.
Publish and present research results in journals, conference proceedings and project reports.
What is Required:
PhD in applied mathematics, computer science, physics, astronomy or a related field.
Experience in high-performance computing.
Knowledge of C++ and/or Fortran as well as MPI.
Experience designing and/or implementing parallel algorithms for scientific applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work productively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience with multicore and/or GPU architectures.
Experience with OpenMP.
Experience with adaptive mesh refinement.

This is a full time, 2 years, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
Full-time, M-F, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
