Reporting to and receiving limited supervision from the Director of Disabilities Resources (DR), the Associate Director (AD) analyzes documentation of disability to assess educational limitations and determine appropriate accommodations, provides programmatic support; develops programs; disability management; advisement and confidential counseling to students with disabilities; participates in case management; advocates on behalf of the University; acts as a resource to the greater campus and community at large as required under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment Act, and the state of California, Santa Clara University, and Disability Resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Service Organization a. In coordination with the Director, designs, develops, and implements a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of students with disabilities within the framework of federal regulations, current and accepted learning theories, and available financial resources. b. In coordination with the Director, facilitate a program to improve knowledge, skills and usage of computers and assistive technologies by students with disabilities for the purpose of enhancing academic success. c. Manages the progress and maintains regular contact of students with disabilities concerning skills for college survival including learning strategies, self-advocacy, organizational skills, time management and social communications skills. d. Maintain accurate and confidential records, as well as tracking ongoing cases, recurrent cases and following up with students.
2. Accommodations Review and Support Compliance a. Review disability-related documentation (i.e. psycho-educational assessments); prescribe accommodations, strategies and interventions for students with disabilities. Facilitates student awareness of the resources and policies of the department. Orients each student towards his or her role as self-advocate for services. b. Consult with physicians, psychologists, therapists, and other prescribers of accommodations as needed. c. Advises, negotiates and partners with faculty in administering academic and/or curriculum adjustments and accommodations to students with disabilities in compliance with ADA, section 504 and section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Acts as a resource for faculty and mediates between faculty and students.
3. Operations Management a. Assists in establishing work standards for Disability Resource staff, students, and outside consultants. b. Assists in specific job training for staff and student workers. c. Reporting to the Director and in conjunction with the with the Accommodations Coordinator, coordinate the acquisition of adaptive technology, auxiliary aids, and interpreters/Communication Access Real time Translation (CART) to provide infrastructure of equal access. d. Oversees all functions of department in Director's absence.
4. Campus and Community Collaboration & Education a. Partner with the academic divisions throughout the University to provide comprehensive and consistent messaging and services for all constituents. b. Function as one of the campus experts for the provision and coordination of academic accommodations for students with disabilities ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies. c. Serve as primary liaison with external disability related organizations and resources, including but not limited to, the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). d. Articulates University, State, and Federal policies and regulations to faculty and staff. Assist in managing office communication materials and venues, including but not limited to, flyers, brochures, website information and development, etc. e. In collaboration with Director develop workshops for students, staff and faculty on issues related to access and accommodations. f. Supports Director's role in providing outreach, education, and promotion to faculty, staff, and students.
5. Assessment & Policy a. Assist in oversight of database management (AIM); including accurate data entry by all staff members and ability to generate reports on demand. b. Work with staff, faculty, and appropriate University Offices (e.g., Admissions, Institutional Research, Office of the Registrar, and Drahmann Advising Center, Cowell Center, Office of Student Life, etc.) to develop and maintain a comprehensive needs assessment for students with disabilities; provide leadership and resources for the design of program and strategies to respond to those needs, including student-focused events as well as faculty and staff development initiatives. c. Reviews, and recommends updates and changes of policies (e.g., documentation guidelines, grievance policy) to the Director of Disability Resources. d. Partners with academic support services (e.g., tutoring services, workshops) to ensure that they are appropriate and relevant for the needs of Santa Clara students with disabilities. e. Complies data and develops reports on all aspects of the support services area such as the annual report, strategic planning, division and system wide reports for Office of Student Life.
6. Other duties and responsibilities: a. Serve as a member of the University's ADA Facilities Committee as designated by the Director. b. Serve as a member of the Student Welfare Team as designated by the Director. c. Serve on other committees as needed and approved by Director. d. The AD will be expected to work in a variety of locations across campus, including offices, classrooms, residence halls, Library, and other student facilities as needed to provide the necessary support for the students registered with Disability Resources. e. The AD will be expected to work some evening and weekend assignments. f. Other duties as assigned.

Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services. 4. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. 5. Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions. 6. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. 7. Recommends guidelines to support the functions of the unit.

Education and/or Experience
Education a. Master's degree in learning theory, education/special education, higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, social work, psychology or related field.
Years of Experience Required: a. Five years of professional experience providing direct service to students with a wide range of disabilities with a post-secondary institution is required. Preferred: a. Experience working in student disability resources.
