Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an LMS (Learning Management System) Application Administrator – Professional Technologist 3. This position is a technical position that will work with the eCampus system, and is responsible for providing application administration, troubleshooting, and support for complex information technology projects, applications, and systems. This includes code migration, change control, application security, performance and availability.
eCampus is WVU's mission critical eLearning system that is used by over 30,000 students and 5,500 faculty in both academic and administrative areas. eCampus is comprised of the core Learning Management System (LMS) as well as 14 applications tools. Its services are used on all of the WVU System's campuses, as well as with affiliates.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Research, recommend, and implement application configuration settings, application roles and user access.
Participate in the planning, testing and scheduling of vendor software releases, service packs, patches, and server add-ons. This includes system updates, upgrades, configuring building blocks, and other software integrated with the eCampus System.
Collaborate with eCampus Management to establish system defaults, and develop, manage and enforce policies, procedures, and strategic plans for system use and expansion.
Collaborate with technical and functional staff within eCampus, as well as developers and database and systems administrators, to ensure necessary backups and restores for each system are performed. Perform regular testing of business continuity plans for all production databases.
Work directly with faculty, students, and other eCampus users to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
Contribute to the development and establishment of unit goals and objectives based on University needs and priorities while considering the functional capabilities of eLearning systems, applications, tools, and services.
Provide technical knowledge in the management of application and/or on-going technical projects as needed.
Provide 24x7 service by being on call-in rotation with other eCampus staff to ensure continuous availability of the production systems and perform application administrative maintenance, software upgrades/patching, testing and verification and custom code application to production systems.
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required; degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, electronics, engineering, or related field is preferred
A combination of four (4) years of experience in the following areas:
Strong technical experience with programming languages, scripting, servers, networking and LDAP
Application administration experience with Enterprise level production systems
Experience with web technologies such as HTML, XML and CSS
Experience with Learning Management systems is preferred
