StreetSquash is seeking a driven, passionate, and organized Development Manager to join our team. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, the Development Manager will play a critical role in the growth of this dynamic, innovative, and high-impact organization, overseeing all administrative aspects of our development activities, and actively participating in all efforts related to fundraising at a critical and exciting stage in our organizational trajectory. Working closely with the Executive Director, Deputy Director and Director of Communications and Events, the Development Manager will help drive the organization to reaching our $3.5 million annual goal by planning campaigns, developing systems and helping to implement comprehensive strategies that increase individual, corporate, and institutional investments across our Harlem, NY and Newark, NJ sites. The right candidate will bring an independent and flexible disposition, deploying excellent relationship management skills to elevate the StreetSquash brand with existing and future investors.
Participate in all fundraising activities including donor and public relations, grant writing, direct mail appeals, and special events.
Refine the organization’s fundraising systems including supporting the transition to dedicated fundraising software; manage the transition of existing data as well as ongoing management of a donor tracking system
Work closely with the Executive Director to build annual and multi-year development plans aligned to our strategic growth goals
Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective donors (including foundations and grantmakers) by deploying robust prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship action steps to expand the funding base
Create and ensure the integrity, accuracy and relevance of all development reports
Proactively develop and execute plans to increase organizational brand awareness and visibility, by identifying and pursuing partnerships that highlight the work of the organization and develop a wider community presence among funders, community members, and elected officials
Work collaboratively with team members on strategic communications and marketing, including event planning and administration, distributing media materials, attending meetings and preparing notices, agendas and taking minutes when appropriate
A high level of comfort building and leveraging the systems and processes that support a high-performing development operation; experience working with Salesforce and/or other donor management software programs strongly preferred
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, demonstrating an ability to conceptualize and describe funding needs in a way that is compelling to a diversity of external audiences; experience writing grants strongly preferred
Project management skills, with the ability to plan effectively, meet all deadlines, and coordinate others’ involvement within a dynamic and fast-paced setting
Demonstrated commitment to improving access to education and meaningful opportunities for traditionally underrepresented student populations
Capacity to think strategically and quickly identify viable funding opportunities while balancing competing priorities with limited resources
Comfort with making decisions independently, combined with an ability to work collaboratively
Bachelor’s degree required
Previous participation in, or familiarity with, sports-based youth programs a plus
