Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to education, research, healthcare, and service seeks applicants for the position of Head of Access Services & Outreach at the Vincent C. Immel Law Library.
We are seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic, and service-oriented faculty member to serve in this highly visible position which is responsible for managing the Access Services Department as well as leading the library's marketing and outreach efforts. If the incumbent possesses or obtains a JD, the position may also include opportunities for teaching in the upper-level research curriculum and providing in depth research support for faculty and students.
Law librarians are non-tenure-track members of the Library Faculty that work on a 12-month contract. Law librarians with J.D.s are also eligible for a secondary appointment in the School of Law with voting rights on matters unrelated to personnel or tenure.
RESPONSIBILITIES – Manages the Access Services Department which includes circulation, stack maintenance, inter-library loan, document delivery, and reserves; supervises full-time professional staff and student workers; creates and implements department policies, procedures, and workflows; shares circulation desk duties with other department staff. – Leads outreach and marketing efforts that promote library services and resources to students, faculty, alumni, and local attorneys; coordinates library participation in orientation, admitted student days, and alumni events; creates library displays; maintains library social media accounts. – Supports the educational function of the law school; delivers instruction and training; prepares and maintains research guides and other informational resources for students, faculty, and other law school departments; participates in the library liaison program. – If the librarian holds a J.D., teaches Advanced Legal Research or other upper level research courses; provides in-depth research assistance to faculty and students; participates in the 1L personal librarian program. – Contributes as a member of the library's senior management team; participates in strategic planning. – Serves on law library, law school, and university committees; participates in faculty governance. – Engages in professional growth activities; attends relevant workshops, conferences, or other training sessions; participates in professional organizations. – Performs other associated duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Required: – M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution. – Professional experience in an academic library, a law library, or another information-oriented organization. – Excellent oral and written communication skills, including a high comfort level interacting with a wide range of patrons. – Strong service orientation. – Understanding of marketing concepts and best practices. – Ability to work independently and also collaboratively. Preferred: – J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. – Experience in staff supervision. – Demonstrated teaching, training, or presentation skills.
