Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The position is responsible for all administrative and managerial functions carried out by environmental services department. Functions include planning, leading, implementing, and administering housekeeping programs for campus facilities and events consisting of office, classroom, library, infirmary, laboratory and research, computer services, auditoriums, and other special purpose facilities. Individual will create a multi-shift organizational structure that provides ample opportunity to cross-train to provide improvement to departmental strength and morale. Additionally, this position will work in support of other departments as directed.
Manage all functions related to purchasing, personnel, and budgets.
Develop, implement and meet short range goals which will positively affect the long term goals and vision of the University and Environmental Sevices Department. Short and long-term planning of institutional services, and negotiation for services required, including making final decisions regarding service delivery for approximately 50 buildings and over 3 million gross square feet of space, with a Building Environmental Services Technician work force of approximately 100 employees working across two shifts.
Management of the Environment Services Department to include hiring/promotions, supervision, job assignments, evaluations, counseling and disciplinary actions. Counsels and advises personnel on correct work procedures and work related matters. Create a professional, flexible organization with the ability to respond appropriately when short-staffed.
Evaluate / modify departmental training program. Provide training and establish systems for succession. Implement a measurement system for performance and skill application. Use annual work plans and other means to develop employees by cross training to improve departmental strength and morale.
Plan and direct programs for the department, utilizing clear and concise communication and presentation skills.
Ensure open communication between customer and department through customer surveys and proper customer care. Develop communication to provide campus wide committees with departmental goals and accomplishments. Communicate recycling, green purchasing and green cleaning goals to customer base.
Analyze and interpret safety policies and determinate applicability within the Environmental Services department. Maintain communications with appropriate third parties to ensure all safety objectives are met.
This position will be working with all levels of University constituents.
Employee works independently under general supervisor of a higher level administrator.
Prefer a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant area of study.
Prefer knowledge of team cleaning concept and green cleaning technology as applicable to a higher education environment with a focus on sustainable leadership practices.
