Under the supervision of the Director of Special Collections and Archives, the University Archivist and Head of UW-Madison Archives provides vision and leadership for the Archives and Records Management Department. The University Archivist and Head of UW-Madison Archives provides expertise in archives and records administration; access to university records and archives in all formats; instructional activities and research support; and developing events, exhibitions, and presentations that interpret the university's history for a diverse audience.
The University Archivist and Head of UW-Madison Archives must be service-oriented and have excellent communication skills. The person in this position must be a dynamic public speaker, comfortable in front of diverse audiences. They will work in a highly collaborative work environment, which requires an ability to work with a variety of departments and colleagues across the library system and campus.
The University Archivist and Head of UW-Madison Archives supervises four full-time staff members: the Head of the Oral History Program, Digital and Media Archivist, Processing Archivist, and Records Officer. Additionally, the University Archivist and Head of UW-Madison Archives oversees interns and student employees directly and indirectly.

Bachelor's degree required. MLS or equivalent degree strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in an archives or special collections.
Knowledge and experience processing archival materials.
Experience with public services in an archives or library.
Experience as a supervisor of staff.
Strong communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership within a library or archives setting.
Experience with library systems such as Ex Libris/ALMA, OCLC, ArchivesSpace, and Aeon.
Knowledge of current national data content and structure standards such as DACS and EAD.
Knowledge of basic preservation and conservation standards for archival materials.
Knowledge of basic records management processes and best practices.
Knowledge digital records processes and best practices.
Experience with grant-writing.
A criminal background check is required.
Additional Salary Information: The minimum salary for this position is $68,000.
