The Division of Student and Campus Life (SCL) serves all Cornell students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional), and strives to promote an educational environment where every student can thrive in pursuit of their academic and personal goals. As part of the SCL group, Residential & Event Services (RES) provides a wide array of services to students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, conference guests, and visitors to the Cornell campus.
Our elevator operator team will support students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing access to the freight elevator in our Willard Straight Hall facility. Elevator operators will be trained on freight elevator operation and safety compliance, and will be responsible for monitoring and managing access to the main freight elevator and creating a welcoming and safe environment for all who use the elevator.
Hourly Pay Rate: $11.00/per hour
Scheduled Weekly Hours: <19 hours per week (schedule may vary based upon availability, hours of operations, and business needs.
Availability Requirements: Availability to work some weekends and/or variable shift times is helpful.
Summary of Job Duties:
Operate freight elevator to transport materials, equipment, and passengers between floors of Willard Straight Hall. Operation includes movement of control levers and pushing buttons to control movement of elevator.
Opens and closes safety gate and door of elevator at each floor.
Greet passengers and provide general building and campus information such as the location of offices, eateries, and building individuals.
Maintain the cleanliness of the elevator: sweep, vacuum, mop, wash walls, gates, etc.
Prevent unauthorized persons from using the elevator.
Monitor and report any repair needs and/or maintenance concerns
Assist in the tracking of elevator usage and visitor traffic
Must be willing to complete a short training program
Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English
Prior experience (or interest in) working in a customer service oriented environment
Ability to stand for short periods of time (10-15 minutes without break) while keeping or regaining one's body balance or staying upright when in an unstable position.
Ability to physically operate the freight elevator and all components
