Advertised Summary Job Description: The Center for Career Education (CCE) helps undergraduate, graduate students and alumni develop the key competencies necessary to make informed decisions and take the necessary steps to achieve their career goals. The Center establishes connections and facilitates interaction among students, alumni, employers and organizations to generate opportunities that help students pursue their personal and professional objectives. CCE serves students in Columbia College, The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of General Studies, the School of the Arts, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and collaborates with the Career Centers in the other schools at Columbia University and its affiliated institutions.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to working in a team-based environment assisting with established and new program initiatives for CCE including workshops, site visits, career fairs and large scale programming, career conferences, networking events and industry dinners. The Associate Director will help develop and implement the communication strategy through CCE's portfolio of communication channels to increase the reach of CCE's many programs and services to student, alumni and employer constituents. The incumbent also manages relationships with marketing and communications colleagues on campus and with peer institutions to ensure innovative practices. The Associate Director is an integral part of the Administration & Planning team, supporting student and alumni programs and events.
Develop and implement marketing and branding initiatives designed to raise awareness of the work of CCE. This includes but is not limited to producing the Center's weekly e-mails; developing print materials; working with colleagues to implement the Student Group Outreach Plan; ensuring that the CCE events calendar is up to date and accessible. Assist in the development and implementation of a Center-wide communication plan and liaise with teams to continue development of the CCE's social media initiatives. Engage with external and internal printing and publishing vendors to establish the most cost-effective means of producing marketing and other career education materials. Work with the staff across CCE to research and create new educational and industry programming. Work closely with the CCE staff to provide project management of CCE flagship events, support for and implementation of workshops, networking dinners, interview nights and other events as needed. Coordinate planning and implementation of large scale day-long career fairs throughout the academic year which serve thousands of Columbia students and alumni. Work closely with the Employer and Alumni Relations team to manage these fairs. Support the implementation of Work with units at CCE to ensure consistent and appropriate branding of events and materials. Ensure consistent use of the CCE logo and continued development of a CCE 'style' and 'writing' guides which will apply to all publications materials - the CCE website, print materials, email, etc. Develop and document procedures and design portfolios for advertising events to students and alumni. Benchmark marketing initiatives and projects with peer institutions and stay abreast of innovations in design, multimedia, online social networking and branding. Participate on and act as a liaison to the various communication groups across College units and the University to increase cross unit collaboration and visibility of CCE programs and Services.
Evaluate all CCE programs, import and analyze event and communication data using analytical tools and prepare reports for review. Attend weekly Administration & Planning meetings, bi-weekly CCE meetings and cross functional team meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required. A minimum of three years related experience required. Experience working in a marketing or communications environment, preferably within a university setting or another complex organization preferred. Attention to detail and accuracy required. Experience with office operations, event planning and management and social media strategies highly preferred. Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills and experience working with and collaborating with cross-functional teams required. Ability to work independently required. Must have discretion to handle confidential financial information. Ability to manage deadlines. Excellent customer service skills, ability to multi-task, ability to work with a diverse constituency of clients.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred design experience and skills using Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Go Live), Acrobat, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access) and Canvas.
