Summary Description: The Staff Associate will over oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. Responsibilities include research support, staff training, regulatory compliance, animal observation, and administrative duties.Essential duties:- Facilitate psychophysical, psychological, molecular, optogenetic, and neurophysiological experiments in awake behaving monkeys;- Oversee maintenance of laboratory, including keeping lab clean and organized, and coordinating with Facilities Management and Environmental Services;- Ensure that research procedures are performed in accordance with protocol;- Establish compliance with federal and university regulations, and serve as the lab contact for inspections by IACUC, EHS, USDA;- Provide continuous surveillance of monkey health and psychological well-being,observing for signs of illness or trauma;- Promote environmental enrichment for monkeys, including foraging toys, activity cage access, and cage pairing where possible;- Prepare equipment and provide assistance during surgeries and MRI's;- Provide direction, guidance, and training to lab personnel;- Supervise the training of all lab animals;- Act as a liason between lab members and the machine shop;- Schedule and communicate weekend watering assignments;- Order lab supplies and maintain inventory;- Coordinate other administrative activities with lab administrator;- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science plus four years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: - Expertise in areas of neuroscience;- The incumbent must be highly motivated, reliable, and responsible. The ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail are required;- Six years of relevant experience;- Previous experience working with nonhuman primates, familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and procedures.
