The Research Analyst (Writer Editor 3) performs a full range of complex research responsibilities associated with conducting a statewide comprehensive program to inform the public of the activities and objectives of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) - California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP). This position is responsible for developing an organizational system that will serve as the repository for literature and media related information. He/she will research and substantiate all advertising, media materials, and social media used by the statewide media campaign. The incumbent will write or edit a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. In collaboration with other professionals, the position is responsible for translating complex scientific findings and concepts into accessible and engaging copy for print and digital media, including website content, brief articles, social media posts and data visualizations. In addition, he/she uses professional concepts to help achieve organizational objectives and provide analysis, organization and communication around scientific findings. This may include formulating new resources such as the repository or other databases and communicating with other units or stakeholders to translate scientific concepts as they relate to the program objectives and organizational policies.REQUIRED- Experience and/or skills to develop and/or translate complex professional/ technical research information into understandable messages and talking points for both technical and nontechnical audiences.- Experience performing in-depth literature searches on various topics and creating summaries and syntheses.- Demonstrated research experience, preferably in library sciences, health sciences or a related field.- Experience with electronic databases including but not limited to PubMed, PsychINFO, Communication Abstracts for relevant literature.- Experience evaluating, interpreting and synthesizing information from a diverse range of sources.- Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of information used in preparing sound and relevant proposals/analyses.- Excellent writing skills for consumer oriented materials.- Strong communication skills to speak and write about findings clearly, as well as understand assignments and instructions.- Project management experience and strong organizational skills. PREFERRED - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communication, Library Sciences, Health Science or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Experience in California State Government and in tobacco control.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT.- May require travel both in and out-of-state to conduct research provide technical assistance, training, and disseminate information.
