Contribute to retention of A.A. students via intensive and systematic intervention coaching.
Carry out a case management model by conducting intensive interventions regarding a range of student concerns. These may include (but are not limited to): questions of major and career choice, anxiety about testing and study strategies, family and relationship difficulties, housing issues, financial aid and general finance problems, registration and advisement questions.
Refer to other campus departments as needed; engage in direct advocacy and follow-up on student cases with these departments as appropriate. Departments include: Career Services, Student Affairs, Learning Resource Center, Student Financing, Business Office, Residence Life, Counseling and Psychological Services.
Serve as a stable presence in the Center in order to create an environment that conveys to students a sense of their mattering and belonging.
Facilitate or co-facilitate regular student discussion groups and/or workshops addressing a range of academic, personal and professional success topics.
Identify needed programming based on topics that arise in student meetings and discussion groups. Assist Director in coordinating and developing events according to these identified needs.
Represent Student Success Center to students and families at campus events.
In conjunction with Director, develop and implement a peer counseling program. Conduct peer counselor trainings; supervise peer counselors; monitor the implementation and tracking of ongoing contacts.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Occasional weekend presentations to students and/or families for Admissions events.
Assist Director with responsibilities, such as faculty advisor development.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Knowledge of counseling, coaching and case management approaches.
Knowledge of the needs of first-generation and underprepared college students.
Abilities and Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills, prioritization, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, individual initiative.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Sciences, is required.
Master's degree in Social Sciences (Education, Counseling, Social Work, other) either completed or in progress is highly desired.
Minimum of one year in direct helping professions (student counseling/advising, social services, career counseling, teaching, other).
