The Computer Education & Training Center (CETC) provides high quality computer training to the metro St. Louis community. The Instructional Designer works with CETC, which is off-campus and located in West County.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To plan, write, design, edit and produce curriculum for technical computer classes. This position will focus on many computer-related areas, including but not limited to database, client/server systems, data analysis tools, graphics, business applications, and programming.
Design effective course materials and edit for grammar, clarity, consistency, and accuracy of content.
Research new areas using multiple sources, synthesize information, and develop new courses.
Conduct research and demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and to translate concepts from technical sources to the appropriate level for student learning.
Using established guidelines, do a final “flight check” on each course before it is released for offering.
Act as project manager to ensure projects meet objectives and requirements, and are completed on time. Project management for course design (end-to-end) to include self-managed for assigned projects and management of others’ projects for both small and large projects.
Assess courses and student feedback to determine if quality guidelines and desired learning outcomes have been met.
Develop and implement plans for phasing in new computer-related areas into the program.
Teach computer classes occasionally. Support instructors in preparing to teach classes.
Serve as resource by providing advice and input on integrating new technologies and developing new courses.
Present methods to help instructors define educational goals, student needs, and choose appropriate content and delivery methods.
Provide support to faculty in the development of curriculum and instruction through consultations, informational meetings, and other activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s degree is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least two years of experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Two to four years experience in technical writing or curriculum design is required. Strong oral and written communication, organizational, and time management skills are required.
Master’s degree is preferred.
One year teaching experience is preferred.
An intermediate level understanding of one or more of the following technologies - data analysis, business intelligence, business applications, client/server systems, or programming - is beneficial.
