Job Summary/Basic Function: Position Summary: The Executive Director of Diversity, Inclusive Excellence, and Training (Executive Director) reports directly to the Vice President for Global Diversity, Inclusion, and Intercultural Affairs (VPGLODIIA) and provides strong leadership, direction, and vision for the Office of Global Diversity Programs and Inclusive Excellence (OGDIE), with a clear strategy for success. Under the general, but limited supervision of the vice president, the executive director will oversee the design, development, implementation, and assessment of campus-wide programmatic initiatives that promote all-inclusive global diversity, intercultural, and multicultural relations at Lamar University. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the development, planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive intercultural competency training initiatives for the entire University, including faculty, staff, and student leaders. The director will also provide ongoing executive assistance to the vice president in the execution of special projects and other administrative initiatives, especially as they relate to the successful achievement of Lamar University's Diversity and Inclusive Excellence strategic goals. Areas of special projects include, but are not limited to diversity and inclusive excellence-centered curriculum and co-curriculum transformation; diverse faculty and staff recruitment, retention, professional development, and advancement; multicultural student recruitment, retention, academic success, and timely graduation; campus climate assessment; inclusion and equity; social justice; and community outreach.
In collaboration with the vice president, Provost's office, academic deans, the office of human resources (HR), division of student engagement, and other appropriate campus constituents, develops and regularly conducts comprehensive diversity and intercultural competency-enhancement training workshops, seminars, and institutes for the entire university campus community, in accordance with current Best Practices in Higher Education.
In collaboration with the vice president, the executive director will build and maintain ongoing collaborative relationships with other campus constituents to ensure the support and buy-in for the success of all OGDPIE diversity and inclusive excellence initiatives, including University-wide intercultural competency training. He or she is also expected to cultivate meaningful relationships with various academic and administrative departments to promote a learning and working environment that is inclusive and responsive to diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competency education. The executive director is also expected to pursue ongoing professional development opportunities. Furthermore, the incumbent is also expected, and occasionally will be required to participate in programming activities and carry out other assigned duties on some evenings and weekends. Other duties may be assigned as directed by the vice president as necessary for the overall good of the division and Lamar University.
SPECIFICESSENTIALDUTIES: 2 Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training ?Provides ongoing strong leadership and direction for University-wide Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training initiatives ?Establishes campus-wide, short-term and long-term Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training goals for each semester, along with intended measurable outcomes ?In collaboration with the vice president, establishes Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training Benchmarks for Lamar University ?In collaboration with the Office of the Provost, Academic Deans, and the Office of Human Resources (OHR), develops and regularly conducts comprehensive Diversity and Intercultural Competency-enhancement training workshops, seminars, and institutes for the entire University campus community, in accordance with current Best Practices in American Higher Education ?More specifically, in collaboration with the leadership of the various departments, divisions, and academic colleges on campus, periodically conducts(both proactively and upon request for customized training sessions)diversity and intercultural competency workshops, seminars, and institutes for faculty, staff, and students[*with special focus on the following training opportunities: New Student Orientations, Freshman Year Experience and Honors College Orientations, Cardinal Communities, Residence Hall staff Orientations, New Faculty and Staff Orientations; Deans' Council Retreats, and Student Leadership Development Conference] ?In collaboration with the Council of Divisional Diversity and Inclusion Liaisons, develops and coordinates a dynamic and effective TRAIN-THE-TRAINER PROGRAM for Lamar University ?Periodically recruits members of the campus communityfaculty, staff, and studentsand trains them to become members of the Lamar University Diversity and Intercultural Competency Trainers Team [DICTT]; coordinates the activities of the DICTT ?In collaboration with OHR and other appropriate departments, develops a comprehensive annual or semi-annual campus-wide Master Calendar for Diversity and Intercultural Competency Education and Workshops ?In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, develops a comprehensive user-friendly Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training Website and regularly manages the site for completeness and accuracy ?Provides ongoing professional practical guidance, advice, and general assistance to faculty, department chairs, and academic and non-academic deans as they strive to achieve inclusive excellence through the total integration of diversity into their curriculums, co-curriculums, instructional methodologies, and multicultural classrooms ?Develops, plans, and leads a robust (a) Student Inter-Group Dialogue Program, (b) Faculty/Staff Inter-Group Dialogue Program, and Student Diversity and Inclusion Advocates Program ?Develops and implements innovative and creative techniques, as well as multi-dimensional approaches to the development of cross-cultural/intercultural competency and capacity in students, faculty, and staff across the multiple aspects of University life, including, but are not limited to: specialized classroom presentations, seminars, customized workshops, and brown bag discussion series on selected current and relevant cross-cultural and intercultural competency topics ?In collaboration with the vice president, develops innovative entrepreneurial diversity and intercultural competency training programs (e.g., diversity, inclusion, intercultural and race relations, and social justice leadership training workshops and institutes for area corporations and agencies), with the ultimate goal of generating supplemental external funding for the Office Global Diversity and Inclusive Excellence's initiatives ?Develops and implements effective strategies for marketing and publicizing Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training programs and services throughout the campus; and for enhancing campus-wide participation ?Regularly conducts comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training initiatives at Lamar University ?Prepares and submits to the vice president an annual written comprehensive Progress Report on the effectiveness of diversity and intercultural competency training efforts at Lamar University ?Serves as a central Diversity and Intercultural Competency Training Resource for the University community ?In collaboration with the vice president, prepares and submits OGDIE annual budget as requested; and manages the Office's annual budget to ensure responsible fiscal operation of state funds ?Performs other duties as assigned by the vice president for the overall good of OGDIE and Lamar University.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Minimum Qualifications an Experience: ?An earned Masters degree in Inter-Cultural or Cross-Cultural Communication, Multicultural Communication, Race and Cultural Studies, Organizational Development and Training, OR related disciplines ?At least 7 years of direct (not related) experience in developing, planning, implementing, and assessing Diversity and Inclusive Excellence Programs AND successfully managing an Office of Diversity at the level of a Director or above, with a record of success, preferably in a college or university setting ?At least 3 years of direct (not related) experience in developing, planning, conducting, and assessing comprehensive Diversity and Inter-Cultural/Cross-Cultural competency training workshops, seminars, and other educational presentations, including Inter-Group Dialogue, with a record of success ?Extensive experience working collaboratively with faculty, especially in the areas of diversity, inclusion, social justice, and intercultural/cross-cultural competency programming and training ?Advanced experience implementing training curricula and co-curricular related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. ?Significant experience training trainers in the art of facilitating conversations about identity and engaging difference and inclusion ?Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive and social media platforms ?Demonstrated experience in successfully managing staff and working with people from a wide variety of identities, backgrounds and professional roles ?Knowledge of, and commitment to diversity and social justice related issues ?Have strong experience in budget management

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications and Experience ?An earned Ph.D. or other terminal degree from an accredited university in a related field is preferred ?Thorough knowledge regarding research and scholarships addressing campus diversity, inclusive excellence, their benefits, and the conditions that must be in place to achieve those benefits ?Classroom teaching experience and extensive experience working directly with faculty and academic deans and senior administrators on curriculum and co-curriculum matters within the context of diversity and inclusive excellence ?The interpersonal strengths of an open-minded, strategic, and creative thinker and active listener who can mediate diverse opinions to address shared needs ?Knowledge of, and experience in grant initiatives and management ?The communication and conflict-resolution skills needed to navigate politically-charged situations to resolve problems, build consensus, and reconcile competing interests
