Department Summary Educational and Community Supports (ECS) within the College of Education is a University of Oregon based research center that turns peer-reviewed research into real-world solutions. Position Summary At ECS, the software developer solves hard problems in an agile team environment. To do this effectively, the incumbent needs to understand how our systems work and think creatively about how we can improve them.
The developer is constantly learning, faced with and expected to overcome tough and interesting challenges, and must be unafraid to ask for help when hitting a wall. As a member of a tight-knit and agile team, constant improvement is central to all our work. The person in this position should be curious, questioning and collaborative.
As a member of the development team, this position helps to build next-generation solutions that integrate disparate data sources into intuitive reporting engines, making teachers, staff and school administrators more effective at addressing problems in the classroom, on the bus, and on the playground.
The position plays an integral part in creating products that: • Improve data analysis • Expedite decision making in schools • Employ insights from leading educational researchers • Enable early identification of problems • Simplify effective interventions • Build supportive learning environments • Conduct data-intensive research
The Software Developer reports to the Director of Application Development.
Professional Competencies • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. • Team oriented • Analytical skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Must be able to work in a challenging environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged • Intrinsic motivation to create something, desire to improve things, initiative taking, challenges, sense of mission, perseverance, concentration, result orientation. • Problem solving skills: solution implementation and verification.
Preferred Qualifications • Familiar with SQL Server • Agile Scrum methodology • Continuous integration and build automation • Familiarity with AJAX, REST APIs, Angular, Single Page Applications, or Mobile Development • Familiar with web accessibility standards • Version control system such as Git and TFS • 1 year experience in design and development techniques including use of design patterns and application lifecycle management.
