The Maintenance Mechanic 1 position provides general maintenance, repair, installations, alterations and construction of building, grounds and the facility within the Student Union and Recreation Center. This position works within the Student Union department and maintains close working relationships with building partners within the SURC including Wildcat Shop, Dining Services and Recreation.
Construction: - Build shelves, small cabinets, counter tops, benches, etc. as needed. - Repair or replace broken tablet arm chairs, table legs and tops. - Repair Steelcase furniture, panels and chairs. - Build, replace and repair floors, walls, and wall partitions as necessary. - Repair building plumbing, check and strainers.
Maintenance and Repair: - Quarterly maintenance in cleaning, lubrication of fan shaft bearings and motor bearings, check and replace motor belts and Change filters and repair AHU Units; drain and glycol chilled water coils flush and refill coil springs; repair plumbing, hot water heaters, pumps, stalls toilets, valves, checks and strainers, faucets; change belts, grease motors and pumps. - Replace light tubes and bulbs. Diagnose fixture problems and pass information on to Building and Grounds Supervisor B. - Repair and hang shades and blinds. - Conduct diagnostic tests, test circuits, change motors, switches, electrical cords, belts, brushes, squeegee lips, water pumps, impellers, and housing parts on snow blower, leaf blower, shampooers, vacuum cleaners, floor machines, pressure washers, auto scrubbers, water vacuums, carpet extractors, etc. - Repair toilet tissue dispensers, sinks, paper towel dispensers, liquid soap dispensers, coin operated vending napkin dispensers, toilet seats, and stall divider maintenance. - Clean and repair gutters and roof systems. - Paint interior and exterior spaces of the facility. - Perform emergency light and retrofit exit lights with Merlin style tubes. - Install sinks, toilets, faucets, washers, faucet seats and valve stems. Install valve diaphragms, vacuum breakers, flush handle kits and slip joint washers. - Erect scaffolding, use aerial man lift or ladders to perform maintenance. - Perform cleaning of light diffusers and light fixtures. - Replace broken light diffusers. - Perform work on theatre/stage lighting and properly dispose of lamps per Environmental Health and Safety and Department of Ecology. - Perform pest control on exterior and interior of building as necessary. - Operate HVAC systems and Lighting Control Systems. - Repair window and mirror moldings. - Install new filters.

Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction and repair work/OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Physical ability to do required work.
Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods of time.
Ability to plan work on a daily/weekly basis to meet quantity and quality expectations.
Working knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and EPA Regulations on products used.
Current Washington State Driver's License.
Experience repairing and replacing doors, restroom dispensers, blinds/shades, small motors, and belts.
Experience repairing concrete and tile work.
Experience with energy efficient lamps, color rendering, wattage, light tubes, bulb life and a variety of fixture types.
Experience repairing custodial equipment.
Experience repairing and/or performing preventative maintenance on plumbing fixtures.
Experience erecting scaffolding, using aerial man lift and/or ladders. Experience operating HVAC systems and Lighting Control Systems.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $3,436/month with periodic increases up to $3,883/month
Working Conditions: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
