Title Position Reports To: Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards JOB SUMMARY: The Conduct Officer is responsible for administration and enforcement of the Code of Conduct. The Conduct Officer works closely with the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards to set and fulfill the goals of the department and the mission of the University. RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES: Assist with the student disciplinary process related to non-academic matters in accordance with Code of Conduct by adjudicating cases. Assist with University responses to Academic Dishonesty in accordance with Code of Conduct by adjudicating cases. Assist with hearings involving students facing suspension or expulsion. Issue interim measures including but not limited to no contact orders in advance of conduct outcomes when necessary and advise other administrators seeking same for students. Serve as a Title IX investigator for the University and maintain required training. Assist with ongoing training of Hearing Boards. Support efforts to maintain Board readiness to conduct hearings through regular scheduled and as needed efforts. Assist with regular training for University staff who are authorized to respond to student disciplinary matters including Residence Hall Directors Resident Assistants and other Student Affairs staff. Assist with management of student staff including a Graduate Assistant to provide preventative programs for the campus community including students faculty and other staff. Support implementation distribution interpretation and publication of assessment tools for the department. Inform and work with parents of students who have serious alcohol drug or other policy violations. Collaborate with other programming bodies and supervise student staff efforts on campus involving issues of civility and ethical decision making in an atmosphere that supports and demonstrates a commitment to diversity inclusion and equality. Use database and track cases including sanction completion and necessary follow-up. Generate reports including statistical analysis. Conduct disciplinary background checks regarding students. Support compliance efforts for annual Clery requirements. Provide outreach to campus community regarding the Code of Conduct. Work directly with faculty Residence Hall Directors and other administrators in the development and implementation of interventions and programs to improve the academic and educational value of the University and to reduce policy violations. Represent the Department on University-wide committees and in other areas to ensure the timely communication of student issues. Participate in the preparation of various publications about the Code of Conduct for students and staff as needed. As needed fulfill the director’s duties in the event of his/her absence. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Prior experience with student conduct in college setting. Excellent interpersonal written and oral communication. Knowledge and experience working with student development programming. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Word Excel Access and PowerPoint. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to students faculty and staff of varying racial ethnic religious gender cultural disability and socioeconomic backgrounds. Knowledge and experience with federal guidelines related to higher education particularly Title IX FERPA Clery and ADA/504.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires frequent typing for extended periods of time. Requires frequent reading for extended periods of time. Requires frequent speaking to groups for extended periods of time.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree required. Professional residence hall experience preferred. Experience working with diverse groups. Mediation training and experience helpful.
POSITION(S) SUPERVISED: Assist in supervision of graduate assistant(s) undergraduate employees and Administrative Assistant.
