The Position: The Executive Director assumes responsibility for the management of all human and financial resources needed to achieve the orchestra's mission. To that end, the executive director is accountable for all aspects of the organization and for implementing policies set by the Board of Directors. S/He reports to the Board of Directors through the Board President and works collaboratively with the Board and Music Director.
The Executive Director will set the tone for organizational operations, formulating and carrying out policies and programs related to the administrative, budgetary, staffing, fund-raising, and advocacy activities, and this position will be a public face for the orchestra in community activities and patron/donor relations.
The multi-faceted responsibilities call for a visionary professional who has demonstrated leadership skills and extensive management experience, the ability to assemble and manage an effective staff, work effectively with board and community members, and collaborate with artistic personnel.
Proven fund development, grant writing, and donor development skills
Strong fiscal management and reporting skills
Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders
Strong computer skills and knowledge of social media trends
Experience in personnel management
Experience in community outreach and public speaking
Experience in arts management and non-profit administration, or similar experience in for-profit setting
Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent years' experience

For 67 consecutive seasons, the Idaho Falls Symphony has provided quality live orchestral experiences of the world's great music for the enjoyment, enrichment, and education of audiences and musicians alike. Currently launching its seventh season under the baton of Dr. Thomas Heuser, the IFS enjoys a loyal following and a stellar reputation as a premier orchestra in the region. The Idaho Falls Sy...mphony offers a six-concert series, a Family Concert, and two evenings of Chamber Music. Venues include the 1,800-seat Civic Auditorium, the Willard Arts Center's Carr Gallery and historic Colonial Theater, and a beautiful outdoor performance venue at Freeman Park. Symphony Ambassadors perform chamber music in 27 elementary schools each season, and the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony has had enrollment exceeding 100 members for 3 consecutive seasons. Outreach efforts include summer chamber music in Driggs, Idaho, the biennial Young Artists Competition, and more. Our musicians are drawn from a broad geographical region and all receive per-service compensation. A 25-member Board of Directors and an administrative staff of two full-time and four part-time employees oversee the governance and operations of the orchestra. The annual operating budget is approximately $500,000, and the organization currently enjoys a balanced budget. Going forward, the need to secure new sources of support is particularly important in the context of an increasingly competitive, arts-intensive environment in Idaho Falls, The Board has begun the process of articulating new directions for the organization through a vision and goals process, undertaken in the early summer of 2017. The work is not yet complete, and the new Executive Director will have the opportunity to participate in finalizing the process, charting a course for future seasons.
