The International Spy Museum (SPY) is looking for a top recruit to oversee the Security team at the Museum’s current F Street location and manage the transition of Security to the Museum’s new location in L’Enfant Plaza (currently slated to open in late 2018). The Security Director will ensure that the Museum guests, staff, and collection are safe and secure at all times while maintaining the high customer service standards expected of the entire SPY team.

On top of working at one of the DC’s most popular paid attractions, the prospective candidate will be part of a significant move and re-opening to a state-of-the-art building.
Productively work with other departments on security-related issues, finding a common ground and solutions to problems.
Plan and implement a comprehensive training program for Security and Museum staff.
The ability to be a team player, within and outside the Security department, thus creating a positive and approachable environment for all colleagues and guests.
Ensure the current team is working to their fullest potential
Become more involved with industry professionals, trade organizations, and local and federal law enforcement.
Oversee the review and testing of safety, emergency, and disaster preparedness programs, policies, and procedures for both locations.
Improve and refine the handling of all incidents, evacuations, theft, injuries, and other security-related issues at the current site and the future site.
Direct the administration of the department, including budget, hiring, and forecasting.
Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Five or more years’ experience within a security supervisory position, preferably in a public institution, such as a museum, library, etc.
Demonstrated customer service customer experience.
Excellent verbal communication style and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Has an interest in the SPY mission and vision and can see it as a passion.
Has in-depth experience in at least 2 of the following: fire protection, investigations, emergency preparedness, or security training.
Proven experience with security technologies (cameras, access control systems, video archive management, etc.
Ability to work within a team environment; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
Demonstrated time management skills and including multi-tasking. Ability to meet deadlines.
One Year Expectations
Created and implemented a security and safety training program for the department and all staff.
Developed a protocol for providing exceptional engagements with visitors at all times while always providing a safe and secure environment.
Provided the VP of Operations with at least five solutions for improvement and implemented at least three of these suggestions.
Resolved all security incidents (including but not limited to fire drills, lost children, collection issues), with no breach of policy, with complete incident reports and with solutions to prevent similar problems in the future.
Worked with the VP of Retail and/or retail managers to determine ways to reduce theft and to respond to incidents quickly.
Built a strong and respected security force that is willing to work with all staff to resolve issues and create productive relationships.
Reviewed current and future Museum safety and security policies and procedures and made the necessary updates.
