Oakendell Residential Treatment Facility is seeking a Licensed Therapist to join our clinical team to work with emotionally disturbed teenage boys. Oakendell is a Trauma Informed care facility specializing in the treatment of adjudicated adolescent male sex offenders ranging in age from 13 to 19.
Oakendell was established in 1980 by Steve and Carol Mertens to provide troubled teens with an opportunity for growth. Built on 124 acres in the Sierra Foothills, Oakendell offers a tranquil alternative to traditional treatment and urban, institutional settings. Today, Oakendell includes a 12 bed Main House, a 6 bed Transition/Emancipation House, a school, a shop, an outdoor basketball/tennis court, a sand volleyball court, animals, gardens, and miles of scenic trails.
Oakendell has evolved, and will continue to evolve, to meet the needs of society's troubled youth. Oakendell is a non-profit corporation, licensed by the California Department of Social Services.
The treatment program operates in a milieu setting with a community school on grounds. The program uses a levels program based on behavior with rewards and consequences. Residents are able to work on ranch projects and job sites out of the valley to earn money and job skills.
The clinical treatment program consists of weekly individual and group therapy and monthly family therapy and follows the Pathways treatment manual for adolescent sex offenders. The clinical staff is comprised of three licensed therapists and two paraprofessionals. Each therapist has 6 residents on their case load. The responsibilities of the therapists include individual, group and family therapy, conducting initial and on-going clinical assessments, quarterly court reports, and participating in treatment decisions. The clinical staff joins the administrative staff to form a treatment team that meets weekly to discuss resident progress in the program.
On the job training is provided. Experience with Trauma Informed interventions is preferred. Specific knowledge and experience in working with adolescent sex offenders is not necessary, but helpful. Please direct all interests and inquiries to Paul Mertens or Lisa O'Donnell at 209-754-1249.
