The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a large and diverse School in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences which includes 44 professorial academics and 11 non-professorial academics who are internationally known scholars with training in the fields of applied economics and management science. The AEM community also includes over 700 undergraduates, 220 undergraduate minors, 100 graduate students, and 38 members of the professional and support staff.
The NY FarmNet program with the Dyson School was established in 1986 as an emergency response program for families in crisis. The program has evolved to be more proactive with services such as financial analysis, business planning, farm family stress management, and retirement/estate planning. The program maintains a 24-hour toll free hotline and program staff are contacted outside of regular work hours.
Job duties include:
Answer the 800 line and professionally and confidentially manage case assignments, and coordinate with consultants.
Oversee all administrative activities including program coordination,
Process program payments, reimbursements, and manage program supplies,
Assist with developing and monitoring an annual budget of $1.1 million, and performing financial projections related to it.
Some statewide travel may be required.
Work as part of a team to constantly enhance FarmNet's delivery of services to NYS agribusiness.
Work in a team environment with the Faculty Advisor, Senior Extension Associate, extension support specialists, FarmNet consultants, and Dyson School administration.
Formal training beyond a HS Diploma of 1 to 2 years, 2 years of college coursework, or Associates Degree; minimum 3-4 years' experience in an administrative position. Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business administration or similar degree and a minimum of two years' experience preferred. Solid familiarity with Cornell systems and processes. Experience with crisis hotline administration and extensive knowledge of NYS agricultural programs, and services available to farmers.
Must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as sensitivity to client needs. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad
range of people using sound judgment, creativity and strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work well with others (and within a team of professionals), while creating a high-quality work environment. Must be flexible and receptive to new ideas and approaches. Must demonstrate proficient skill in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and strong attention to detail when managing multiple projects. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with many interruptions. Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently. Proven record of maintaining confidentiality.
Must have and maintain a valid NYS driver's license, and undergo a successful driver background check. Flexibility to travel state wide to assist NY FarmNet consultants with record keeping. Accuracy in spelling, grammar, proofreading. Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands. Ability to be methodical and well-spoken.
One year term appointment with possible extension depending on secured funding and successful performance.
