The UW Tax Office has an opportunity open for a Compliance Analyst.
This is a temporary six month position. Reporting to the Tax Director, this position will perform analysis and ensure data submitted in tax documents is in compliance with all university, state and federal requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
20% Independently and under the supervision of the UW Tax Director, compile and review tax and financial data to allow for the identification of trends, patterns, and opportunities and communicate such data to the UW Tax Director.
30% Other duties as assigned by UW Tax Director. Duties include support and completion of projects as needed to support Tax Director's institutional compliance role.
15% Respond to telephone and email inquiries from university clients regarding various tax matters including sales and use tax and other taxes associated with the University of Washington.
35% Collect and organize data from stakeholders for preparation of tax forms. Review data to assure accuracy and completeness. Assist in the completion of the 990-T Exempt Organizations Business Income Tax Return under close supervision, complete additional tax forms, including Forms 720, 1099 and 1042-S, State Excise Tax Returns and City of Seattle Parking and Admissions Tax Returns with minimal supervision; and reconcile and account for tax amounts related to the above tax forms.
Bachelor's Degree in any field.
Equivalent experience can substitute for degree requirement.
Required qualification - Minimum work experience one year or less.
Required Type of work experience: Direct tax and/or account experience is not required. However, candidate will be expected to demonstrate ability and desire to learn and to become proficient in relevant tax and accounting concepts at the direction of the Tax Director.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Basic critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to interpret instructions to complete tasks.
Willingness to learn and assist in solving difficult problems.
Intermediate level skills in MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint (ie, ability to develop well-formatted Word documents, use and interpret pivot table data and basic functions in Excel, and to create appropriate presentations with text and graphics in powerpoint).
Ability and willingness to learn additional technical and technological skills.
