Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Programs, the incumbent will be responsible for providing academic advising with non-matriculated, matriculated and prospective students both regular and international.
Additionally, the incumbent will provide support in the area of student recruitment by tabling, making presentations, and attending various events for the college. The incumbent will advise on-line, distance learning students, but may also meet with students, to prepare academic plans, answer degree related questions, and make referrals to other campus resources to students on a day-to-day basis, in person, on the telephone, and via email.
acquiring prospective student information for student recruitment to degree and professional programs;
evaluating student needs and direct, guide, and/or advising of available services; maintaining accurate student information and status in CRM or database;
attending recruitment fairs to promote programs;
assisting the prospective student with identifying course needed to meet admission requirements and graduation requirements once admitted to program;
interacting with students and follow up to inquire about progression in the program at time specified for each program;
identifying solutions to ensure student retention in the programs, providing counseling and advising to students to develop a plan for retaining them in degree and professional programs;
hold regular group advising, orientation sessions or one-on-one sessions via online, skype or in-person;
collaborate and involve faculty and other staff with programming efforts and work with a number of organizations on and off campus to meet programming needs;
provide support for workshops and training including but not limited to current and prospective students and others as needed such as community partners;
collect, organize, create and submit quarterly and annual reports summarizing programming efforts that include data and recommendations and any other ad hoc reports requested.
The position requires that the incumbent work outside of assigned hours on certain occasions, and the willingness to travel domestically. Incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited four year college or university (or equivalent work experience); minimum of two years' experience in advising students in a higher education setting; experience developing reports, gather and analyzing data; knowledge of advising and counseling techniques; familiarity with conducting orientations for students; demonstrated record of organizational skills and attention to detail; strong interpersonal communication skills; excellent oral and written English communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Access) Candidates must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, occasionally working evenings and weekends and to travel domestically.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
