Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced educator to design, review and create assessments and support materials that measure student progress toward college and career readiness and gives educators information and tools to improve teaching and learning. Performs decision analysis and makes decisions of consequence to determine how best to create and deliver various types of assessments and instructional supports. Demonstrates good judgment in application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures and policies. Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques related to the use of assessment data for classroom and instructional improvement. Uses full knowledge of course subject matter and program. Meets frequently with colleagues, and works directly with the Director of Supports for Instruction. Demonstrates shared leadership with experienced teachers in achieving goals.
Smarter Balanced is a University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Silicon Valley Extension program that supports standardized assessment in California and 14 other states and territories across the nation. Through the work of thousands of educators, Smarter Balanced provides an online assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), as well as tools for educators to improve teaching and learning.
Smarter Balanced is guided by the belief that a high-quality assessment system can provide information and tools for teachers and schools to improve instruction and help students succeed regardless of disability, language, or subgroup. We involve experienced educators, researchers, state and local policymakers, and community groups working together in a transparent and consensus-driven process.

Bachelor's degree in related area.
Student teaching internship or full-time teaching experience in kindergarten through 12.
Thorough knowledge of principles, theories, methods, techniques and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction.
Thorough understanding of child growth and development principles and theories.
Proven ability to select and utilize appropriate educational materials, supplies, equipment, technology and learning aids.
