Advertised Summary Job Description: Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Financial Coordinator is responsible for various projects within the department that are focused on Finance processes and procedures. The incumbent will present results from reports, analysis, and/or new policy and procedural change of financial reporting tools and management reports using best practice applications, tools and processes. In addition, he/she will develop ad hoc financial reports for management decision making at the department level. This position will involve advanced use of MS Excel including creation of pivot tables and use of formulas (i.e. VLOOKUP) to create reports and analyze variances on a variety of data sets.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 0-2 years of experience in financial support strongly preferred.
Must be knowledgeable about general financial and accounting practices including GAAP; Communicates upward (school level senior leadership) clearly and effectively; familiarity with Columbia University financial policies and systems is strongly preferred. Must be able to quickly learn university electronic processing systems for purchasing and A/P, or have prior knowledge and experience with ARC. Must have strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate a high level professionalism while working with confidential information.
This position requires a high level of independent judgement and has responsibility to advise the Director of Finance and Administration on many aspects of finance operations. Incumbent must be self-directed and exercise strong judgement with changing priorities.
Must have strong proficiency with data management and analysis in Microsoft Excel, and proficiency with other MS Office products such as Word and Access.
