The newly implemented Integrated Service Center (ISC) will support the University's faculty, staff and student workers by serving as a first point of contact for designated HR and Payroll inquiries and by processing a limited scope of centralized Human Capital Management (HCM) transactions (i.e., within the HR, Benefits and Payroll domains). The hallmarks of the ISC will be in delivering services that are timely, accurate and highly attuned to the fast-paced university environment.
The ISC has an exciting opportunity for a QA Engineer/Release Manager position. This role will serve two primary purposes; to build and perform tests that verify business processes configured within Workday, and to manage product releases though the development life cycle.
The QA/Release Manager works closely with business and technical subject matter experts, development teams and system administrators, as well as business stakeholders, throughout testing lifecycles, to ensure that the overall quality of the delivered solutions are in alignment with business expectations. This role also ensures that there is a structured, repeatable framework for the delivery of Workday releases. They will oversee changes to the HR/Payroll enterprise system supporting over 46,000 employees.
The ISC is looking for a proven QA/Test engineer with experience in Release Management. An ideal candidate has experience using test automation, as well as leading regular and irregular releases though the development, test and deployment phases. You will be managing scope based on resource availability and setting release priorities based on input from stakeholders and customers. Beyond the immediate focus on Workday, the role may also have the opportunity to define and evolve process management practices in IT Service Management across UW-IT.
This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and participating in the comprehensive testing and deployment of Workday upgrades and enhancements. This position functions within a diverse team environment that includes the business and technical Subject Matter Experts.
Successful candidates must collaborate productively with system end-users, technical staff, and business stakeholders throughout the testing lifecycle and release process, to ensure that the overall quality of the delivered solution is aligned with business expectations.
The incumbent is expected to perform quality assurance and testing on UW enterprise business applications, which are mission critical, administrative computing systems. These systems operate in multiple, complex and diverse information technology environments and platforms, including large-scale mainframe, client/server, enterprise-wide databases and Internet-based technologies. Excellent communication skills will be key to the success of this position.
BA in Computer Science, Information Science, or related area
Minimum of four years of experience designing, developing and implementing test strategies, test plans, test cases, and scripts for functional, structural, and regression testing.
Experience in release management or a similar job function in a technology or software development environment
Proficient using data mining techniques to fulfill the requirements of test scenarios
Experience with the full lifecycle of system implementations and upgrades
Ability to create clear and concise management updates on progress, issues and risks
Ability to record clear testing results, investigate testing issues, and provide feedback to project teams on root failure cause and potential remediation activities
Ability to understand, create and manage test data
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Familiar with automated testing tools, solutions and frameworks, such as Kainos SMART
Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills
Solid communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to speak and write about technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new techniques, technologies and methodologies.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a cooperative effort, with minimal supervision.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Masters' degree in Computer Science, Information Science or related area
Experience executing authentication and authorization tests
Experience leading testing efforts across a variety of platforms, operating systems and browser clients
Experience with implementation of complex systems for large institutions
Ability to train and guide others.
Experience managing testing and production releases in an Agile software development environment
Demonstrated knowledge of different types of databases (relational, NoSQL, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of data exchange formats and protocols (XML, JSon, etc.)
Innovative, with the ability to develop creative solutions and find new ways of doing things efficiently.
Experience testing and implementing Workday or other HR/Payroll software products
Familiarity with deployment components such as JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo and SharePoint
Familiarity with Software as a Service (SaaS) and cloud hosting
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.

Work in an open office environment and contribute to collaborative team work focused on problem-solving. Daily interactions with other team members, subject matter experts and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. While the general working hours are within Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., the Knowledge Management Specialist will, on occasion, need to adjust hours to accommodate the business needs and deadlines.
This position is funded through June 30, 2018, continued employment is dependent on funding and performance.
