Description About the Position & Responsibilities: The office of the Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE) is seeking an Assistant Provost for Inclusive Excellence (APIE) with strong experience with faculty and keen awareness of undergraduate and graduate student life. The position will report directly to the Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence. With the guiding principle of advancing diversity, equity and inclusion at the forefront, the Assistant Provost will help design, implement, assess and improve faculty professional and leadership development initiatives, resources and practices while supporting the efforts of campus partners already engaged with students. The Assistant Provost IE will evaluate and augment existing programs, including leadership development programs for faculty in administrative roles, orientation programs for new faculty and university engagement programs for faculty at all stages of their careers. The Assistant Provost will also consult with faculty leaders, administrators and units across all schools at Vanderbilt University to determine leadership development needs and then design and implement new programs based on those needs and the University's strategic priorities. The APIE will ensure that equity, diversity and inclusion efforts are tailored to various stakeholders in local contexts, but are consistent across the university community. Additionally, the Assistant Provost will the aid the Vice Provost IE in efforts to attract, hire and retain a diverse array of faculty talent and in assessing and ensuring that undergraduates and graduates across subgroups are flourishing across a host of dimensions. The Assistant Provost IE will assist the VPIE with pan-institutional communication coordination and messaging related to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Assistant Provost will serve as the primary convener of individuals within the schools/colleges and Dean of Students office tasked with inclusive excellence initiatives and will also serve as the VPIE's primary designate. Additionally, cultivating relationships with undergraduate and graduate student leaders will be a significant portion of the APIE's portfolio.
