Job Description:The primary purpose of a Spanish language medical interpreter is to ensure effective communication between a provider and a patient who speak different languages. This medical interpreter facilitates oral communication in the outpatient clinical sites of the BSOM. The interpreter makes it possible for the limited English proficient patient to access and benefit from services to the same extent as other patients. Additional responsibilities may include work of a clerical nature, as well as identification and referral of patients with complex needs to Social Work and Case Management Services, to financial counselors or other resources to meet their needs. Miniumum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and three years of interpreting/translating experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Special Instructions to the Applicant: This is a part-time (20 hours a week) permanent position. This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations. Salary Grade Equivalent: 65 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
