Applicants interested in pursuing an academic career in medical physics are sought for a post-doctoral research fellow position in our Image-guided Radiation Therapy Research Program. Our research focuses on investigating radiomics and deep learning approaches for predicting radiotherapy related clinical outcomes on computed tomography images in lung cancer. Of particular interest are applicants with experience in deformable image registration and other advanced image processing techniques, database management and statistical modelling as well as experience with machine learning. A broad background in engineering mathematics, experimental measurements, and scientific programming are desirable.
A Ph.D. in physics, medical physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field is required. Experience with computational programming in UNIX/LINUX/Windows environments is essential. The successful candidate will have experience working with image analysis and machine learning algorithms in C++, Python, and/or Matlab environments. While the majority of the position involves primarily translation research, the successful candidate will have opportunities to gain experience in clinical medical physics and have the opportunity to participate in radiation oncology physics course work. The Department of Radiation Oncology at VCU provides a full range of clinical services including IMRT, image-guided brachytherapy; cone-beam CT guided radiation therapy, on-line portal imaging, and stereotactic radiotherapy. Funded research programs include: CT image reconstruction, image-guided brachytherapy, radiomics and deep learning applications, multimodality imaging biomarkers including MRI and a wide range of molecular biology translational studies. The Molecular Imaging Center includes PET, microPET and 3T MRI imaging facilities, a cyclotron, and a wide range of research activities.
